2017 Ann Arbor Gathering
Theme: Wonder Together

Join Us: June 25th - 27th
We’re so excited! The June Ann Arbor Gathering is just over 2 months away, and registration is open now. Once again we have a fantastic line-up of workshops, a new StorySlam, our trademark project showcase and unconference, and a special “design day” focused on your projects and initiatives, with strategies and materials from our design mindset toolbox. Please make note of our new Sunday through Tuesday format for this Gathering.

May 15th Deadline!
Use the code EARLYBIRD to receive a 20% discount on your full Gathering Pass. Your pass includes two workshops on Sunday, Public Symposium on Monday, and our "design day" on Tuesday.

If you have a project, plan, activity, learning tool, or wacky idea, we want you at the project showcase. It’s an easy, informal way to share your ideas and your work, make new connections, and get feedback from a wide range of creative people. Be sure to submit a very brief project description by June 2nd.
We also want to hear your story beginning with the prompt “I wonder…”. Our StorySlam events at past Gatherings have been so popular that we’re using the format again for our keynote event. Sign up here before May 15th!

You can register for a Full Gathering Pass, which includes two Sunday workshops and Monday and Tuesday events. Or, you can register just for workshops on Sunday, or individual days on Monday and Tuesday.

Design Thinking Pilot Course in Progress
The iiE “Introduction to Design Thinking” pilot course is in full swing, and we’re grateful to our fearless piloteers, who have been doing great work and giving us all sorts of useful feedback. We’ll be making adjustments accordingly and plan to run the course for the public within the next few months. Stay tuned! In the meantime, check out our website for more information about our iiE Design Mindset CARDS.

Department of Other Great Things:
  • Don’t miss the 4T Virtual Conference, organized by our friends at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor School of Education, coming to a web browser near you this May 20-22. It’s all online and free -- register at
  • EMU Bright Futures Ideas to Action Conference will take place just before the iiE Gathering on Friday, June 23rd. Leaders, practitioners, researchers, and stakeholders are invited to learn about the most recent Social Emotional Learning (SEL) research and discuss how to best bring these practices into the educational community.
  • The June Gathering also follows on the heels of the North American Reggio Emilia Alliance (NAREA) summer conference, Early Childhood Education as Activism: Stewardship, Social Justice, and Global Engagement, taking place June 22-24, also on the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor North Campus. A related exhibit, The Wonder of Learning – The Hundred Languages of Children will be open to the public in the Duderstadt Center during the Gathering and throughout the summer. Even more reason to join us in June!
  • Applications are being accepted for Vancouver Island University’s September 2017 Graduate Diploma in Online Learning and Teaching (OLTD). The OLTD diploma is a two-year part-time, fully-online program. Learn more about this innovative program here.
  • The iiE is planning an event in Portland, Oregon for October 2017. Watch for more details in our next newsletter!
