Welcome and Hello!

Hello my lovelies and welcome to the first edition for 2020 of our e-Newsletter.  

Happy New Year, 2020, a new year and a new decade! 

As we begin the year, we wish to acknowledge the tragic opening to 2020. We have been deeply saddened by the catastrophic bushfires devastating our communities and environment. A great many of our members and Network partners in the Eastern States particularly have been directly impacted by the fires. They have been suffering the ill effects of the thick haze of smoke that still lingers weeks later in some areas. Our great nations people have watched and listened day after day to the news reports of utter despair and loss, seeing images of communities wiped from the map, families broken from loss, and our beautiful wildlife decimated in the wake of the flames and smoke that spread. Stories of human resilience and hope began to emerge and volunteers began to assist with the animals who had been injured. Australia and it's people have been broken before, but we will rally and rebuild because that is what we do. It is hard not to be affected by this tragedy which is still unfolding and we are sending our love and blessings to all who have suffered during this time. PHNA Committee of Management.

Community Spotlight

January 2020 Newsletter Club, & Getting Social Workshops at ConnectGroups. I met some amazing new people including Raul from Activate Mental Health, and Daniel from Sirens to Soldiers.  I felt really supported with my emotional health and well-being by being with these amazing individuals, as well as learning a few things too! 
You Only Die Once - Campaign
We are delighted that evaluation results have proved that You only die once, Australia’s first Advance Care Planning consumer awareness campaign, was highly successful.

A comparison of pre and post campaign survey results indicated a 60% increase in awareness of Advance Care Planning. In addition, over 6,000 people visited the dedicated campaign website for more information over the period of the campaign.

Palliative Care WA CEO Lana Glogowski said “Consumer awareness campaigns have a lot to compete with just to get our attention, let alone prompt us to find out more.  These excellent evaluation results show this campaign managed to do just that, proving that not only was the concept effective but also that there is an appetite for the topic.”

"This campaign has created a platform from which we can continue to increase awareness of Advance Care Planning so more Western Australians can get the end of life experience they desire."
