Welcome & first words from the CEO
Hello PHamily, welcome to the 3rd edition of our monthly e-newsletter "The Hype". We are so glad you are enjoying our updates.

It has been an extremely busy year once again for so many of us. Getting through the calendar can leave you quite breathless, literally! We have continued to achieve many of our goals, and objectives during 2018.

We look forward to a new year full of promise as we plan for further growth in our Australian pulmonary hypertension community. Thank you to everyone, we really appreciate your support and encouragement as we build our Network.

Both myself, Team PHabulous, and the PHNA Board of Management all wish you a peaceful and safe festive season. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, Melissa Dumitru & Team PHabulous

Breaking News PHNA 2018 Superhero Awards

PHNA Community Support Group Xmas Party
On December 4th we gathered to enjoy our annual Christmas party. We missed our beautiful PH Angels who have passed away this year, and those who were not well enough to join us.  We shared laughter, raffles, great company, and delicious food, catered for by the gorgeous Fiona (below right) from "The Cook in the Hat", who is a treasured sponsor. Thank you to some of our sponsors who joined us, Craig from 'weigh n pay" & Elaine from "Lions Club of Whitford". Patron Professor Eli Gabbay popped his head in to say hello, and give a quick PH update. Our Nurse Ambassador Tara Hannon, who is loved by all, came to wish us a happy Christmas. We had a special appearance from CEO Antonella Segre from ConnectGroups Association, who presented us with the "Give it Forward" grant. This was another great day of memories...

Community Spotlight - Introducing Tegan Dunmall

Tegan hosted a lovely housewarming party with friends and family to celebrate November awareness month. We were blown away by the generosity of the guests, who along with her valued work colleagues, helped her to raise over $2000.00! We will be working with Tegan to put those funds towards a 'special project' she would like to work on in 2019. Thank you to all the participants, PHNA have issued you all with a "Certificate of  Appreciation", and our sincerest thanks.
Mini-Bites from the Network
Thank you to the ConnectGroups Association who presented us with funding from the Lotteries Commission through the "Give it Forward" grant 2019. This generous grant will help us to finalise our projects for the first quarter of 2019, and our dream of national incorporation, and becoming a charity. Thank you so much to the panel for this wonderful opportunity.
Graduation for Certificate IV Community Services
It was quite a year as we came together in early 2018 to commence our studies for Certificate IV Community Services at the ConnectGroups Association HQ. Part of the benefits of being a scholarship winner for this unique approach to studying, is that the Lecturer (the gorgeous Lena below right) came to us! Proudly supported by Lotteries Commission, this course enabled many of us to continue in our professional development in our chosen fields. It was a day I had looked forward to all year, graduation. Unfortunately as fate would have it I was in hospital! In true CG style the team bounded into my room singing and dancing to present me with one of my certificates. I desperately wanted to be there with everyone on the day but this was a truly special moment too, that I will always remember. Thank you to CG, Lotteries and Lena our lecturer, and all the amazing women I spent time with this year. Melissa
Community Champion Award
Fay Bahemia is one talented lady. With multiple skills and experience under her working belt she experienced a life changing health event two years ago, which led her to re-evaluate her life and her goals.  Fay was presented with the Mayors Community Champion Award in November in recognition of her outstanding contribution as a volunteer to the community. Fay has been a volunteer at ConnectGroups Association for three years and has participated and executed multiple projects. She works as a freelance science writer and consultant, and will be continuing her work for PHNA in 2019, as our Project Consultant Coordinator. Congratulations on this well deserved award we are so happy for you.

Global November Awareness Month for PH

Every November the global PH communities come together to celebrate awareness, and highlight our rare disease to their communities. Some of the larger associations such as PH USA, UK, Canada, and,  hold some truly amazing events and fundraising initiatives. We are so grateful to them for leading the way, and including us in their journey. This year our new Ambassador Tegan hosted her own awareness fundraising event (see pictures in Community Spotlight), This year we had planned a "Cupcakes 4 PH" bake sale which was going to be hosted by our sponsor "weigh n pay'. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances we had to cancel our main event in WA for the first time in 8 years. Instead I put together a social media awareness campaign working with information from our lung community here in Australia. It was well received, and we thank the Lung Foundation for their ongoing support of our pulmonary hypertension community in Australia. We would also like to thank Craig and Sarah the proprietors of our sponsor "weigh n pay", for contributing a new IT package to PHNA in place of the planned fundraiser. We are so grateful!
