Suzanne d'Arcy  "Summer Heat"  Oil on Canvas 12" * 12"

Suzanne d'Arcy grew up between her grandmother’s California farm near Jackson in the Gold Country and her parents’ suburban home in Sacramento. That split existence gave her respect and love for farm and rural life coupled with living experiences in the city.  Her first  public venture into painting was one of her grandmother’s farm animals, an anatomically correct bull, which got her painting removed from Back-to-School Night as a child and thoroughly embarrassed her parents.  Suzanne did not mind.
D’Arcy received two Bachelor of the Arts in Art Studio and Art History from the University of Davis, followed by an ABA degree from the Academy of Art.  Her style is figurative expressionism and  explores the relationships between domestic animals, humans, technology, and city life.
In addition to teaching at the Academy of Art University, she has taught Location Painting at the Orinda Center for several years. Galleries include Across the Way in Moraga and Benicia Plein Air Gallery.  Suzanne has many wins in State and Regional painting competitions, including the California State Fair and Alameda Fair and a First Place Oil in the Haggin Museum National Competition. D’Arcy is active in preserving open lands; she is on the Art in Public Spaces of Moraga commission and served as a Planning Commissioner for the Town of Moraga.
