How You Can Help to Stop the Pipeline

(Make a comment to the PSC)

National Grid is proposing a 7.3 mile fracked gas pipeline beginning in Bethlehem and ending in North Greenbush, most of it located in East Greenbush. They hope to get their certification this summer and begin construction this coming fall, with a 3 year construction timeline. We have grave concerns about this proposal.

Anyone can make a comment at the Public Service Commission's website for the E37 Pipeline. The more specific and individualized the comment, the more useful it is. To make a comment click here and then click the light blue bottom, "Public Comment" in the upper right hand side of the page. You can also look at any of the filed documents on the case and other comments in the tabs below the grey area. Here are the general categories of objection to the pipeline that we identified.
  • Environmental Damage
  • Not Moving Toward State Goal of 80% Reduction by 2020
  • Danger and Disruption to the Community
  • Need not established
  • The Application Does Not Provide An Adequate Factual History of Prior Outages Nor of Likely Future Ones.
  • Public Involvement Did Not Follow Rcommendations
  • Although National Grid (NGrid) has been preparing this proposal for nearly two years, the public just recently heard about it.
  • Non pipeline alternatives were not seriously considered
  • Why does the public pay for infrastructure that the utilities make a profit from?

Petition Delivery in Support of SHARE
Tuesday April 23 - 3:00
War room of the Capitol at 3:00

A class of Skidmore students has been helping SHARE this semester and they are organizing a press conference when they deliver petitions to the governor. It's been really fun watching them learn how to organize. We need a small crowd to support them and hold banners. It should take about a half hour.

Divestment Hearing
April 30 at 10 am.
Hearing Room A of the Legislative Office Building (LOB)

Senator Kruger and Assemblymember Ortiz are holding hearings on legislation requiring Comptroller DiNapoli to divest the NYS pension fund from fossil fuels.  Click here to register with 350.org for the event. The page says the event runs from 10 to 2, but mostly we need people from 10 to 11 to fill the room and hold signs.

In the afternoon we have scheduled a few legislative visits. If you would like to join a lobbying team, contact Ruth Foster rmfosterny@gmail.com
