Dear Uma,

New Partnership with the Green Crescent Trust is Launched (GCT)

Part of the mission of the Ann Foundation (AF) is to provide education to underprivileged children around the globe. To achieve this, CEO Ann Moideen inspires and motivates volunteers to launch literacy projects in their native countries.  Our work towards this goal continues, with the creation of new partnerships and programs serving the children of Pakistan.

Ann has inspired another dedicated and longtime volunteer of the Ann Foundation (AF), Hina Aslam, and together they have launched a new literacy project for underprivileged children in Pakistan. Ann and Hina’s goal is to eradicate child labor in Karachi, the largest and most populous city of Pakistan.

Hina identified an NGO that was interested in partnering with AF, the Green Crescent Trust. Director Hassan Maalik was supportive of this initiative and a partnership between the Ann Foundation and the Green Crescent Trust was formed.

GCT Director Maalik has said of Ann and the new partnership, “I was deeply moved by Ann Moideen’s compassion about eradicating child labor through education and supporting children’s families through income generating activities for women.”

Maalik explains their aim in working together is to unleash the power of education, to motivate and free as many children as possible from the shackles of child labor as well as develop income generating programs for women through vocational training.

New Literacy and Technology Education Programs Take Shape

Ann, Hina and Hassan all believe in the power of education to improve the lives of children.  English literacy is a critical skill to help improve the lives of these children and open their worlds to new possibilities within their communities.

The Ann Foundation’s Online Classes are an interactive way to motivate students to learn English. Ann’s volunteers conduct reading and speaking sessions with videos, flash cards, animations and other tools that encourage children to learn. After their very first AF class, children almost finished correct pronunciation of the entire English alphabet!

In addition to learning English language skills, AF provides education in the use of modern technological tools.  Students of GCT were very new to Skype classes and were fascinated to interact with AF tutors around the globe.  Encouraging this interest in emerging technologies is critical in helping children keep pace with the modern world, while also exploring the rich cultures around them.

Your Gifts Make A Difference

Feedback on these new programs has been very positive.  The students developed a strong rapport with AF tutors and in just two months,  AF tutors have reported their confidence levels have increased drastically.

Next up for the partners will be developing vocational training and workshops for women with the goal of creating income generating programs.  These programs aim to have a ripple effect of motivating women to “pass on” this education to their children. GCT Director Maalik has said he “believes that Ann has the intellect and practical approach to develop these programs for women.”
