Punjab Growth Strategy 2018


The Punjab Growth Strategy 2018 is an initiative of the Chief Minister to rapidly increase economic and social development in Punjab. At the request of the Government of Punjab, the IGC provided expert input into this Growth Strategy and convened a group of economists and sector experts to help develop specific areas of policy reform and investment. The Government intends that this Strategy will guide its growth agenda in the medium term and help achieve high rates of economic growth, to provide quality jobs to young people entering the workforce every year.

Reclaiming Prosperity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: A Growth Strategy

 
The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa asked the IGC to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the key potential drivers of economic growth for the province in the medium term, and to provide policy recommendations to achieve high rates of growth. In response, the IGC and a team of leading local experts developed a detailed economic report for the province, titled Reclaiming Prosperity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: A Medium Term Growth Strategy. The IGC has now presented this report to senior leadership in the Government, which is currently in the process of adopting its recommendations.

IGC Pakistan film on tax collectors

This video shows the results of an IGC-funded “pay for performance” project in Punjab’s Excise & Taxation Department working with leading economists from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). We found that giving incentives to urban property tax collectors increased the amount of tax collected by 30-40%. An academic research paper showing the results of this project is available here.
