Spatial Happenings July 2016gary_searle_terrain_org_au_LThumb.jpg

<<First Name>>, I am Gary Searle, the new Chair of FunGIS. During the 2016/2017 year I want to serve the FunGIS membership by focussing the executive on organising regular networking events and attracting good training to the region. The Spatial Happenings newsletter will be a regular feature this year and I encourage everyone to contribute (you can add your ideas and contributions here). For all those who were able to attend the Fun with Funky Stuff conference please take a couple minutes to fill in the survey. I look forward to catching up with you all at a Monthly Mapping Meetup in the near future.

Monthly Mapping Meetup

A social evening where we get together to network, have a brief talk by a Spatial Angel and then share a drink, some nibbles and continue to network. Informal dinner arrangements will follow the meetup if you would like to keep networking. As the title suggests we will be looking to organise a meetup every month on the second Wednesday of the month. Meetups will rotate locations with every second meetup in Cairns. Other proposed locations are Tablelands and Innisfail. More here.

Fun with Funky Stuff – 2016 Annual Conference Wrap Up

The 2016 Annual FunGIS conference and AGM was held on the 2nd and 3rd of June at the Pacific International Hotel. Enthusiastic delegates from across the region as well as a few travellers from southern corners contributed to making the annual event, a success once again.
A broad range of presentation and workshop style sessions kept delegates engaged, including presentations on: Google Cardboard Virtual Reality Headsets; Improved raster capabilities of MapInfo Pro; enVizion’s virtual reality bus; Terrain’s Wet Tropics Plan and online mapping tool. Day two had participants in a classroom style workshop learning the basics of FME software.

Please give us some feedback on the conference and win.
