First Rehearsal Recap

To change things up a bit, and since it was such a beautiful, bright and sunny day yesterday, I decided that this week's update should include a video!
First Columbus Symphony Rehearsal Recap
Lights... Camera... Action!
Wow, What A Night!

One of the best parts about being a conductor is that I get to work with passionate musicians who come from all walks of life, and who truly love playing music. Put an exciting and challenging piece in front of them and they devour it.

Last night was no different.

Stepping onto the podium last night - knowing my every move and interaction was being judged and compared to the other four finalists - was both nerve-wrecking and exhilarating at the same time. On one hand, I have no idea what or how the other candidates did during their cycles, so it's difficult to know where I stand in comparison. Yet, on the other hand, the more we worked together and took time to joke and laugh, the more comfortable we felt with the music and with each other.

More Great Views

Last week, I included a link to an album of pictures I took around downtown Columbus. Well, I couldn't resist another stroll around town this week, and have added a bunch more shots of this beautiful area.

Click over to the album on my website and check 'em out!! And "yes", I will be adding more when I get to take the "official" Columbus Architecture Tour!

Tour information available here.
Conductors are lucky: Our "final interview" could last anywhere from a couple days to a couple of months, and it requires us to do exactly what we love!

Now, if my first rehearsal with the Columbus Symphony is any indication of what you'll hear come April, you are all in for a wonderful treat! Not only will you feast on some beautiful music from across the classical music spectrum - including the U.S. premiere performance of Michael Schelle's Rain - but that hall will be filled with such excitement and drive, you'll be exhausted just sitting there - and still beg for more when it's all said and done!!

Now hurry and go MARK YOUR CALENDAR and MAKE PLANS to be in Columbus!!

Enjoy the rest of the week!
