April 26 Is In The Books!

After months of prep work, countless hours studying and rehearsing, running around town with Alyssa to meet and talk with local elementary and middle schoolers about life in the arts, and a wonderful concert with old and new friends that was also attended by so many of my own friends and family…  it’s all done!!
Sunday’s concert with Alyssa and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra was a true success, and I think it’s safe to say everyone enjoyed themselves.  The musicians were all very complimentary of the program, while I was beyond impressed with their passion and focus that afternoon, and throughout the cycle.  It is always so fulfilling to collaborate and work with such passionate musicians to put on such a great performance.

A special "Thank You" goes out to everyone who added their invaluable advice and expertise during the course of this cycle, including...

Laura Neidig, Marketing & Editing
Jenine Baines, Public Relations
Laura Andrews, CSO Liason
Patrick Wiegand, Theatrical Advisor
James & Ingrid Moriarty, Videographer
Alex Farris, Photographer
John Johnson, Erne Auditorium
Elaine Lyon & Jessica Fartouh,
"On The Road" Editors & Soundboards
"They delivered an extremely sensitive and moving performance of 'Rain', featuring world class NY soprano Alyssa Bowlby, and they nailed 'The Exorcism of the Sugar Plum Fairy'... all under the direction of maestro Andrew Lyon."

Composer of "Rain"and "Exorcism

Michael and I after Sunday's concert

Michael's view of "Exorcism"

As this will be the last issue of On The Road To The Podium for a while, I wanted to make sure everyone knows how much fun it’s been for me to share this process with you, and getting back so many emails of support since it launched.  A conductor’s job is to excite the orchestra and the audience, and your answering the call to action for my “Quick Click” and “Spread the Red” campaigns proved that you were right there, eager and ready to help out any way you could.
So, Now We Wait
The CSO has one more candidate to audition, after which time they’ll make their decision (likely sometime in late June or early July).  They have a lot to consider when choosing their next music director, especially as they begin preparations for their 100th anniversary season!!  How cool will that be?!?!
Now that this concert is in the books, it's time to switch gears and get back to my other projects: leading the 65th Street Klezmorim in this weekend’s performances, picking out and preparing the music for the Circle City Chamber Group’s next two events, advising on the music for two film scores, and coordinating a European tour – the work never stops… and that’s exactly how we stick wavers like it!!
Once again,
THANK YOU SO MUCH for all the encouragement and support.  It’s an incredible honor to have such great people, from all around the world, in my corner.  Fingers crossed and we'll talk again soon.

Until then, enjoy the great weather, and keep the music playing!
