Issue 19 April 2015
Welcome to Aprils edition of DartScout, It doesn’t seem like it’s almost a year since I took post as DC, but here we are in April and spring has finally sprung.
It was really nice to attend both the Cub Silver and Beaver Bronze awards over the past month, It’s great to see the hard work that the leaders are putting in paying off for the young people to achieve these awards.
A big well done to all the Beavers that received their CS Bronze Award Certificate on Sunday 22nd March. It was good to see so many Young People at our new venue.
Buddy enjoyed his Secret Agent sleepover with 3rd Woodland this month. He spent the evening with Wilmington Beavers learning about the RNLI. He is going on holiday over Easter to the Norfolk Broads – hopefully he will not need to use the skills he learnt the other night!!
If you would like Buddy to join your Colony Activities please let me know in good time.
Sunday 26th April – St George’s Day Parade – Dartford Park
Enjoy the Easter Break.
We've had our first Silver Awards of the year and I am busy working on district events for the cub section including and activity day at LGF and caving at Buckmore park!!
If you have any activities you would like to see run across district let me know
Don't forget Gilwell fun days bookings are now open, so reserve your places at this fantastic event in June.
The District Cub Bear has now been named Cubby Bear courtesy of Wendy McLean. If packs want to take him on an adventure, let Jacqui know.
Well Spring has certainly sprung (although it is pouring with rain as I type!) and I’m looking forward to an exciting Summer of activities for the Scout Section. It was good to see a number of you at Active8 – some really good activity ideas and chance to catch up with leaders from across the county. Kent International Jamboree 2017 was launched - if you haven’t taken your troop to a Jamboree before this is an easy option being right on your doorstep. The KIJ 2017 website is up and running so do take a look. We have been planning for forthcoming events as you will see from the list below. As well as the dates below don’t forget St George’s Day on Sunday 26th April. I’m starting to get my head around the new Scout Section badges. It was be good to share experiences at our April meeting.
Scout Leaders Meeting – 20th April 2015
When I set the dates for 2015 I failed to spot the original date for the April Leaders Meeting was in the Easter Holidays. The meeting will now take place on 20th April, 8pm in Scout House. The minutes from our meeting in January have been circulated.

Paul and the team have agreed to run another of their popular Climbing Badge Courses at 5th Dartford on 25th April. The details have been sent to all Scout Leaders. Let me know if you haven’t seen them,
County Gold Awards Presentation
Don’t forget the County Gold Awards on 6th June. If you would like Wayne or myself to come and present any Gold Awards at your troop nights please do get in touch. I wonder how long before we get our first Gold Award on the new system?
Johnson Trophy will be held at Buckmore Park on 20th June. At our April Leaders Meeting I would like to get a feel for the level of interest in adding an overnight element to the event being run as an additional competition.
Tug of War Competition
Due to popular demand we will run a Tug of War competition this year. Do any troops have ropes we can use so we can have more pulling and less waiting?
