Winter has arrived! We won't test our luck by claiming it's here to stay, but our fingers and toes are crossed! Trails aren't open yet, but we'll be sure to let you know as soon as they are. Now is a great time to get those memberships!

WCC FALL MAINTENANCE REPORT

The 9k loop hadn't been cut for several years so we were sure to straighten and widen it, as well as all the other loops,
to make for easier grooming and better skiing. We cut down about 70 trees and brushed back the sides of the trails.
Thanks to our volunteers who worked from early October until mid November to complete this task!

Our Green policy is to plant three seedlings for every tree we take down - most of these were dead or dying poplars,
often with a dangerous lean out over the trails. We will replace them with evergreens, placed to provide windbreaks
and reduce drifting. Watch for announcements about a planting bee in the Spring. We'll need lots of helpers to meet
our objectives!
NCCP COMMUNITY COACHING COURSES
December 13-14 2019

All Bunnies and Jackrabbits coaches are required to have NCCP Certification. It is important to have trained coaches within these programs to ensure our young skiers are being taught how to ski properly and to maximize their potential. By volunteering as a coach, you will not only improve your own skiing abilities but you will also be rewarded by seeing progression of young skiers as they improve their skills. Other incentives include free trail passes on program days, free ski rentals , two free private lessons! and Babysitting subsidies for coaches also available!

Contact Mary Waddell at president@waldenxc.ca for more information or to register.

Racers Report
Head Coach, Marlee Clement

On October 9, Walden put on their annual Turkey Gobbler Trail Run, which is a fundraiser for the Walden Nordic Ski Team.  Several members of the Ski Team came out and enjoyed the fun event. We would like to thank all the participants who supported our team.  A special thanks goes out to all the organizers and volunteers who made this race possible.

We have been continuing with our Fall Dry Land Training where we have concentrated on ski walking and striding and developing our core.  Although we have had some cold and rainy nights, being back with the Team and coaches has been amazing and we can’t wait until the snow hits!
