Walden Cross Country Trail Work

Next time you’re out on the Walden ski trails take a moment to appreciate the great work our volunteers do in the off-season by getting the trails ready for winter skiing. Quality trails don’t just happen by themselves. There are a number of tasks to complete before the season starts. Work started this year with replacing culverts on hot summer days followed by trail brushing in the fall over a number of sunny and rainy days. This brushing also clears the trail for the annual Turkey Gobbler race. Work continued through late fall with the cutting of trees blown down by strong November winds and removing trees impeding safe operation of the groomer.

The Walden Nordic ski team also helped this fall by removing or covering over of many rocks with wood chips on the back stretch of the 3k lit loop and Shell’s trail. The Walden Mountain Bike club maintains and brushes the 3k lit loop in the spring summer and fall.

Whether you’re looking forward to training, racing, a fast Strava time, a recreational ski, or all of the above we’re happy to say that the trails are in good shape for winter.  Enjoy.

WCC O Cup January 16-17 Cancelled

Statement from our board:
Walden CC will  not be inviting  anyone from out of town ( Sudbury and District Manitoulin Health Unit ) to local events so as to be consistent with Public Health  guidelines and COVID 19 prevention recommendations.   We felt it  would be  irresponsible to encourage  non essential travel  in light of the current COVID 19 situation.

In light of this decision The Woolly Hippo January 3 2020 will also be cancelled.

We are hoping to move forward with our Night Lights Race Series!!

Trails like these don’t just happen by themselves. It takes a lot of hard work from our volunteers.

Walden Cross Country would like to thank volunteers Marty Neva, Phil Mulligan, Jody Waddell, Dave Hanson, John Peacock, Rusty Hopper, Matti Jousi (Beaver Lake), Dave Richardson, Dave Hamilton, Boris Iotzov, the Walden Nordic Racing Team (skiers and parents), Walden Mountain Bike Club volunteers, and everyone else who has played a part in maintaining our quality trails.

Thank you to our volunteers Cathy for painting and organizing chalet cupboards. Stu for putting up ski racks and putting together picnic tables.
