It's time to renew your membership!

We now have September to September TRS Membership renewal, so it's time to renew your Triangle Recorder Society (TRS) and American Recorder Society (ARS) memberships! No matter where you are with your playing, the ARS magazine and the TRS playing meetings will revitalize your efforts. Please renew by September 30, 2018 so that the treasurer can forward our renewals to the American Recorder Society all at one time. [If you are late, you will need to pay ARS individually!] You can bring your form and check (made out to the Triangle Recorder Society) to the upcoming September meeting or mail it to Doug.  Visit our membership page for the form:

Welcome to our new TRS President!

Hello all, I am Sue Ann Wright, the new president of TRS.  I began playing recorders in an Early Music Consort, while in college. In my career, I have developed music programs at three schools.  I have just started my 12th year at Sterling Montessori Charter School (Pre K - 8th) , where I teach general music, band, and chorus. I joined TRS a couple of years ago and enjoyed getting back into playing recorders for my own enjoyment again.I look forward to serving you. If you'd like to get in touch with me about anything, here's my email: sue_ann@mac.com

New Meeting Coordinator Needed

Judy Fox, our meeting scheduler, has announced her resignation. She has wonderfully served in this position for many, many years, or should I say, for as long as I can remember. So, we are in need of a replacement. Basically, every semester meeting sites scheduled and confirmed. TRS has been very fortunate to have Judy's service. Anyone interested in filling Judy's shoes, please email janjenkins826@gmail.com

From the TRS Music Director Jennifer Streeter

I'm looking forward to another great year leading the enthusiastic recorder players in the Triangle!  Our new anthology will include music of women composers from a variety of eras, again compiled by our favorite Eric Haas.  I'm excited to explore this music with you throughout this year.  Pick up those recorders and let's play!

Upcoming performances:

Come enjoy an intimate concert of baroque music with food and friends. Tickets will only be sold ahead of time (follow the Facebook link) and only 60 are available!  Music by Dothel, Corelli, Pleyel, and Mondonville.

Triangle Recorder Society Business Meeting Minutes

June 16, 2018

The group held a business meeting during the June 16, 2018 play session. Prior to the meeting Jan Jenkins (president) requested questions or comments from members who could not attend. No responses were received.

Bev Koester (treasurer) reported we have $2502 in our CD account and $1877 in our checking account. This is about $160 less than our balances were last year at this time. However, this past year we didn't have the anthology printing expense and we also were paying the music director more, so it's a little difficult to justify. Jan noted that the workshop did not break even, so to compensate, TRS authorized $300 to go toward faculty stipends. One possible reason, Doug (membership) noted, was that members are notified by email, rather than mail. Jennifer (music director) said that she uses an address list provided by ARS as well as Doug's and anyone that did not have an email address was sent a postcard. So the $300 loss can't be attributed to lack of notification. Doug also noted that Amherst also offered a workshop in Washington the weekend following our workshop which attracted the Charlottesville people. Jennifer said in the future TRS will try to set a date as far away as possible from the Amherst workshop. Jennifer reported the major downfall of the workshop was the cost of airfare. Jan asked if we should charge a meeting fee for the December meeting. Since we are financially okay at the moment, it's probably not time to discuss this.

Next topic is the election of a new president. Jan noted she has loved being TRS president these past five years. Sue Ann Wright has volunteered. She is a pre K through 8th grade teacher at Sterling Montessori School. She has been a TRS member for three years. All were in favor. Starting in September she will be our new president.
