Sheepshead:  Worth the Effort to Catch and Cook
This fish is popular year-round here at Mott's Channel Seafood due to its fine white flesh, mild flavor and versatile preparation options. Sheepshead are pretty common along the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts, although they’re not easy to catch and are known to be be bait-stealers. In addition, its heavy scales and strong fin spines make it difficult to clean and fillet.

Luckily, our expert staff takes care of the tough work for you.

Need some suggestions on how to prepare your fresh sheepshead fillet…just ask!
For this weekend only, treat Dad to a new Mott's Channel Seafood t-shirt or visor and take 20% off your purchase!

Use corn, mango and a touch of lime for a deliciously refreshing combination that pairs well with many of Mott's Channel Seafood's flaky white fish offerings such as fresh grouper, flounder, snapper or with shrimp.

This healthy and delicious recipe makes eight cups.

  • 1 tablespoon Canola oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 cups fresh corn kernels (about 4- 5 ears)
  • 2 cups diced peeled ripe mango
  • 1 cup chopped red onion
  • 1 cup chopped red bell pepper
  • Juice from 3 limes (about 6 tablespoons)
  • 1-3 tablespoons of fresh cilantro, chopped (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cans black beans (15 oz.), rinsed and drained

Heat canola oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Stir in corn and cook 8 minutes or until browned, stirring occasionally. Place corn mixture into a large bowl. Add mango and remaining ingredients. Stir well. Refrigerate until serving.

Back in May Ebb broke his leg and is now recovering from surgery.  He is doing very well and hopes to be back on the prowl on our docks and surrounding property again soon!
