When it comes to feeding a big batch of friends and family, how do you figure out how much is enough? Motts Channel Seafood is here to share some basic guidelines. But keep in mind that your plan may need to change depending on the rest of the menu and your guests. 

If you know that your guests like to enjoy a lot of food, or if they prefer very small portions, you will need to adjust accordingly.  If you are preparing multiple courses, or if your main dish involves multiple types of protein, plan on serving a little less of each.
  • For whole, round fish: You’ll need about ¾ to 1 pound for each person, unless it is already cleaned and dressed, then ½ to ¾ pound each should suffice. 
  • For fish filet and steaks:  Plan on buying 6 ounces per person. 
  • Serving clams as the only protein choice:  Plan on one dozen per person.  If you’re serving another protein like steak or shrimp, count on about half a dozen clams each.
  • For King crab legs: Count on 1 pound per person, even as much as 1 ½ to 2 pounds if your guests are hearty eaters.

The 23rd Annual Bark in the Park Skyhoundz Hyperflite Canine Disc Championships at Wrightsville Beach Park features daring dogs and crafty canines soaring into the air to snare Frisbees in their jaws. Competitors need no previous experience. Rain date: Oct. 2 at 1:00 p.m.
