What's happening at Auckland’s Port  SEPTEMBER 2016

Celebrating heritage,
Supporting community

Celebrate our city during this year's Auckland Heritage Festival. Take a trip back in time on this 90-minute cruise aboard the historic William C Daldy steam tugboat, one of the port's first tugs built in 1935. This family-friendly tour will cruise through the port's wharves at work and under the Auckland Harbour Bridge where the Daldy once famously saved a piece from floating away during construction.

Explore the boat at your leisure - watch the engine room in action, visit the captain in the wheelhouse and help the crew shovel coal down below! Or, sit back and enjoy a fascinating commentary on Auckland's maritime history as you take in views of the Waitematā Harbour.

Katie Jenkins, PortFit Instructor and Corporate Administrator
Katie - PortFit Instructor & Corporate Administrator

Q: How would you describe your job?
A: I have two quite different roles. I'm a Corporate Administrator to a few members of our Executive Team, which is a busy role supporting their day-to-day needs, arranging meetings, taking minutes and booking travel. On weekday mornings I'm also a PortFit instructor, training a good mix of our staff from executives to stevedores to improve their fitness!

Q: What's the most challenging thing about your job?
A: It's important I'm able to anticipate the needs for our Executive members as they have such busy schedules. When I first started it was challenging to learn all the shipping terminology and acronyms but I'm starting to get the hang of it now!

Q: What makes you proud to be a part of the port?

A: I love how friendly everyone is here, people are always so happy and helpful and willing to share knowledge and information. It's such an interesting place to work and there's always something new and innovative in the pipeline and I'm really proud to be a part of that.

Q: Describe your ideal weekend:
A: Surfing in Raglan!
News in Brief

Calling all Grads!
We're about to launch our 360 Degree Mentorship Programme - a graduate programme with a difference - in early October. If you're an Auckland student, keep an eye out on your university careers page to find out when our team will be visiting your campus.

ArtBox travels to Rio!
Our container that we had painted at SeePort in 2014 by artists TrustMe and Askew traveled all the way to Rio for the Paralympics with our Kiwi team. If you're active on Twitter or Instagram you might come across a photo or two of it at the Paralympic Park. Check out this video of ArtBox being painted at SeePort.

Creating solutions for our customers
We've been busy developing areas of our South Auckland Freight Hub. Our new cross-dock warehouse will soon be completed, allowing customers to efficiently transfer cargo between different modes of transport.

Auckland rated top cruise destination
Auckland has been named a top-rated cruise destination in the recent Cruise Critic's Awards. Last year we handled a record 259,758 cruise passengers over 101 visits!

Cute cargo!
We handle some unique cargo through our port from time to time. A couple of weeks ago we had a group of goats visit before being loaded onto a vessel bound for New Caledonia. They were heading there to introduce some new blood into the existing gene pool. Check out a video of our furry friends on our Facebook page.
