May Newsletter

It is hard to believe that the beginning of the season is month away.  Every year is different.  There is a beauty and sometimes pain to working so closely with mother nature. Things are definitely behind schedule this year.  We've had a lot of rain, which has meant we couldn't plant early at the farm in Campbellsport like we usually do.  The land in West Bend is much higher, so we were able to plant over there, but a little later than usual.  Some cold temps threatened the strawberry blossoms and nipped some transplants, but all and all things are looking good.
Since the year is different we've changed our strategy.  We've stopped taking members for the spring deliveries 15 short of our regular quota.  We want to make sure we have enough of our early season perennial crops like asparagus and rhubarb and hoophouse crops to have a good share for those of you who have already signed up.  We will instead take 15 members who will start at a later date and receive veggies though 10 weeks over the summer.  We think this will mean better shares for those of you already committed for the year while still allowing us to meet our financial goal for the year.
We plan to have our first delivery Thursday June 8th, but will send out more detailed information by the third week of May to each member by email.  Look for these emails with details about your delivery or drop-site and instructions on how to customize your share.
We're excited and honored to be your farmers this year!  If you need to check your balance on your share you can do this by following the directions at the bottom of this email.

Weeding party! RSVP for directions and to let us know if you will be making it.  We always have so many weeds to pull this time of year that we're asking for your families help in advance.  This is a great way to see the farm and also lend a much needed hand.
