Dear Researchers,
This is the first annual newsletter for the CEPR Network on Household Finance which was established in April 2015 by a set of European researchers with long-standing contributions to developing the field. This network, led by Michael Haliassos of Goethe University Frankfurt, aims to promote research on household financial behaviour that is both scientifically excellent and relevant to policymakers and market participants. It does so through organisation of specialised scientific conferences and workshops and of events targeted specifically at policy makers, regulators, and practitioners; promotion of young researchers; dissemination of household finance research; promotion of innovative research methods and creation of high-quality micro-datasets of financial behaviour. The list of Founding Members can be found below.
For continued updates on the network’s activities, please refer to the dedicated page on CEPR’s website, which can be found here.

Partnerships
Our network has been active in establishing international collaborations and partnerships. A prominent early collaboration is with the NBER Working Group on Household Finance, which is still ongoing with respect to conference organisation and dissemination activities.
Think Forward Initiative
CEPR has become an academic partner of the Think Forward Initiative. The CEPR Network stimulates relevant research by TFI partners and cooperates with TFI in the organisation of events and activities that disseminate key research findings in household finance to practitioners, policy makers, and the general public. The first such event, the TFI-CEPR conference on Insights into European households, took place in London on September 14, 2016. TFI contributes funding to the Household Finance Initiative and provides a platform for sharing industry experiences and relevant data.
The National University of Singapore & the Asian Bureau of Finance and Economic Research
We have recently expanded our academic research collaborations to Asia, culminating in our recent partnership with the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Asian Bureau of Finance and Economic Research (ABFER). This partnership extends the reach of the Network to Asia and opens up possibilities for household finance research across important continents and diverse cultures.

Other Activities & Involvement of Network Members
The CEPR HF Network will develop and expand significantly the International Household Finance Initiative, a multi-purpose website originally developed at Oxford University by John Campbell, Tarun Ramadorai, and Cristian Badarinza with funding from the Sloan Foundation. This website collects papers, data sets and codes on household finance, and cross-references papers and authors to data sets used and topics studied. Following migration of the website from Oxford to Imperial, the CEPR HF Network will join forces with Imperial College Business School to expand content and develop new functionalities geared to promoting interactions within the CEPR HF Network and between HF researchers worldwide.
In April 2016, Michael Haliassos organised a special session on Household Finance at the renowned Shanghai Forum, which is run by Fudan University and the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies. The CEPR network was heavily involved in the session, with presentations by Laurent Calvet, Francisco Gomes, Michael Haliassos, Luigi Guiso and Tullio Jappelli.
Also, Tarun Ramadorai heads the Committee on Household Finance established by the Reserve Bank of India.
Michael Haliassos serves on the Consultative Working Group of the Investor Protection and Intermediaries Standing Committee of ESMA (the European Securities Markets Authority).
