CHEW on this!
Chewing your food has many benefits. Just by fully chewing your food, you will: (1) experience faster satiety (leading to weight loss – yay!); (2) experience overall better digestion; (3) have more energy; and (4) improve your dental health. All of that just by chewing??? YES! Here’s why:
▪ Your body does not realize it’s full until 20+ minutes after you begin chewing. Taking time to chew will create a lag factor leading to fullness. Get it?
▪ Chewing is an important step in the digestion process because chewing signals your stomach to prepare for food in that your stomach releases enzymes which break the food down into small particles so that most nutrients can be absorbed.
▪ By chewing well, you cause less duress on your digestive system. Less duress leads to more energy!
▪ Chewing also strengthens your teeth, jaw, helps prevent plaque build-up and tooth decay.
While there is no specific number of “chews” I can recommend (because every food is different), a good rule of thumb is to chew your food until it becomes liquefied.
Chewing your food mindfully is a good metaphor for life. Consider “chewing” on your thoughts. That is, think things through; don’t rush to make hasty decisions; sit with things for a while. “Chew” on your thoughts as this will lead to making more mindful choices.
Keep chomping 😬
