October 2021
We are at the end of another month already.. Labour weekend is gone so most gardens should have something planted out in them by now.
Main crop seed potatoes are going in. There are quite a few varieties that are now sold out so I hope you haven't missed out on your favourite spud...
We still have a few tomatoes available but are running low on grafted tomatoes due to the high demand, we are slowing down on the 6 packs (punnets) now. Lots of good strong potted plants ready. We have all types of tomato's from the wee cherries  through to the larger Grosse Lisse & Beefsteak. We have a couple of our own varieties as well  Poppy's great taste (Tasty Tom or Campari) an Poppy's sweet treat Why not give them a go for a wee change.
A great range of vegetable plants in store. The early bird gardeners will have room for another row of lettuce, cabbage or cauli by now.. We sell punnets of peas and beans ready to plant so if you didn't get seed sown its a quick catch up.
We have had a good stock of fertilisers. We mix all our own on site using Poppy Diacks old recipe. There is a mix for every type of plant in every ones garden. We also stock GROSOUTH which we pack and market, it is a slow release fertiliser. Once a year application for all range of plants. If you prefer a more organic approach we recommend sheep pellets, blood & bone or our own mix of compost. You can buy it by the bag at $6.99 (or 4 for $25) or by the trailer load at $55.00 per half a metre.
Our roses are looking great in full leaf and some even in bud. Now is a good time to get them in the ground before they flower.
Camellias, Rhododendrons and some Viburnums are in full flower and look absolutely spectacular. Best time to buy flowering cherries is now so you can see the colour and shape of them. Plenty in stock.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK
Monstera Cookies (vegan, gluten-free, oil-free)
INGREDIENTS
  • 1 + 1/3 cup gluten free oat flour
  • 1/2 cup runny tahini, or nut/seed butter of choice
  • 1/3–1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2–3 tsp matcha powder
  • more oat flour to roll dough as needed
Method:
  • Preheat your oven to 160c
  • In a large bowl, combine maple syrup, tahini and vanilla extract in a bowl. Whisk to combine until smooth.
  • Sift in oat flour, baking powder and matcha powder and use a spatula to mix.
  • Mix until a dough forms. It should be moist, not sticky, and easily rollable. Add additional oat flour as needed and roll out on parchment paper.
  • Roll dough about 1/4 inch in thickness and using a cookie cutter, cut out your desired shapes. Use excess edge dough and re-roll to continue until all the dough is cut.
  • Bake for approximately 5-6 min, keeping in mind the cookies will firm up after baking. Keep an eye on them to make sure they do not burn and remove from oven to a cooling rack to avoid burning. Let cool completely.
