When you first elected me to represent Ward 5 in Mississauga, I knew there was a lot of work to be done and some challenges ahead. I was excited by the prospects! This fall, we'll be taking on some big issues at both the City and Regional levels - from the proposed widening of McLaughlin Rd. to a debate about the fluoridation of our water supply.

Be sure to follow my website, www.carolynparrish.ca, and forward these messages onto your friends and neighbours so they too can stay on top of the coming developments.

In the weeks ahead, I'm looking forward to celebrating Hallowe'en and Diwali in the community. Then on November 11, I'll be attending the Remembrance Day ceremony at Celebration Square. Please join us to recognize the veterans who have given so much for our freedom in Canada.

Update LED Streetlight Upgrade

The City will wrap up the installation of LED streetlights in December 2015. So far, more than 40,000 lights have been replaced across the City, leading to a savings of 13.1 million kWh of energy between July 2014 and June 2015 - that's enough energy to power City Hall, LAC and the Central Library for one year.

Learn more about the project here.

Windrow Clearing Program - Apply Now!

Registration for the City’s Driveway Windrow Snow Clearing Program is open for seniors and people with disabilities to help clear snow at the end of driveways during road plowing.

Applications will be accepted until November 13 - learn more and print your application here.

Changes Coming to Fireworks By-Law

Today, we approved a one-year by-law amendment to permit fireworks for Diwali in November 2015 and Chinese New Year in February 2016. The amendment will go to Council next week, where it will likely be adopted.

Please note that fireworks cannot be set off from any public street or roadway in Mississauga.

Private Tree Protection By-law

Did you know that the City limits the number of trees that can be removed from a privately owned property each year? We're working to enhance Mississauga's tree canopy while still giving homeowners the right to landscape their properties as they wish.

Other news from Ward 5 and Mississauga

  • The Region of Peel has begun delivering new waste collection carts in Mississauga. Please continue to use your existing bins until January 2016 when the new biweekly program begins. Get more information here.
  • This December, the Rotaract Club of Mississauga will host their Living Lights event at the Living Arts Centre. The club lights up trees inside the LAC to brighten up the city centre and spread holiday cheer.
