Historical Memo Signed!

The Peel District School Board has resisted dozens of attempts to re-purpose its beautiful farm, for the past 30 years. Finally, the City and the PDSB have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to go forward with the preserving this glorious property in a relatively natural state, for the next 100 years.

To create a state-of-the-art outdoor education centre will require 33 acres of land wrapping around the corner of Bristol and Hurontario to be leased for 100 years for mixed residential and commercial use with fees paid up front. Those funds will be used both to develop the outdoor education centre and to fund its operations for many years into the future.

The historical buildings will be clustered at the schoolhouse location. The Sugar Bush will be preserved and enhanced. A Field Centre with classrooms and a multi-media facility will be commissioned by the Peel District School Board.

Most importantly, the farm will remain open an green space for the benefit of the children of Peel!

McLaughlin Rd: What's Next?

We successfully and indefinitely ended the debate on widening McLaughlin Road earlier this year, but what's next for maintaining this designated Scenic Route?

Over the next few years we will see the following take place:
repairs done on the edge of the Britannia Farm Bush; a multi-use trail for walking and biking on the west side of the Scenic Route; McLaughlin Road will be resurfaced; on-road bike trail south of Bristol will be completed; and signage for reduced speed limits for the scenic portion of McLaughlin.
