Britannia Farm plan approved!
It’s a project that I’ve had my eye on since I was a school trustee, over 30 years ago. The Britannia Farm, 200 acres sitting right in the middle of the city, owned by the Peel District School Board, has been waiting for decades to become a vibrant, accessible community sanctuary where people can enjoy the outdoors and kids can learn and play.
I am so excited about the Britannia Farm Master Plan, which was approved by the PDSB last week. It will see the development of a living lab along Cooksville Creek, trails wandering through the sugar bush, a field centre for school kids, a historical farm and model gardens. A 32-acre pocket of land will be developed right on the coming Hurontario LRT line – combining mixed-use residential and commercial property with efficient transit and easy access to an urban oasis.
This plan has been a long time coming, but the rewards will be great. You can learn more about the approved plan, and how the City will work with the School Board to make this project a success, on the PDSB website.
It’s great news going into the holiday season! I hope you enjoy time with your family this holiday season. Looking forward to more exciting news in the 2017!
