Santa Claus is Coming to... Westwood Square!

On November 27th at 1:00 p.m. Santa Claus is coming to Malton - the real Santa with a real beard! He will arrive at the South end of Westwood Square - riding in an old-fashioned wagon pulled by two huge Clydesdale horses, at the invitation of your Councillor.

For three hours, children will be given rides around the south end of the mall past the Tim Hortons hot chocolate/coffee outlet where parents can wait for their little ones.

I thank Westwood manager Jeff Nelson and Fieldgate for once again contributing to our community. Along with their amazing support of Malton's Canada Day for the past two years, they have welcomed Santa with open arms. I hope to see you all there Sunday, November 27th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Westwood Park

Westwood Park will begin its playground redevelopment on Wednesday, November 9th and will take approximately four weeks to complete. The redevelopment includes new playground equipment, accessible surfacing, fitness opportunity, and a seating area.

The rehabilitation project is funded in part through the Government of Canada's 150 Infrastructure Program. The federal program celebrates Canada's 150th anniversary, under the theme Giving back to Canada.

Winter Maintenance   in Mississauga

The City of Mississauga is preparing for the winter season. The City uses a priority route system to clear snow and apply salt. Following a snowfall the City's first objective is to ensure that emergency vehicles and transit buses have safe access to routes on major roads. After operations are completed on major routes, snow clearing operations will proceed with clearing local residential roads. The following are the levels of service after the end of a snow storm:
  • Priority roads are cleared within 12 to 24 hours;
  • Local residential roads, bus stops, pedestrian crossing and priority sidewalks are cleared within 24 to 36 hours;
  • Cul de sacs, roads with 90 degree bends and dead end streets are cleared at the end of the snow clearing operations.

Fall Curbside Battery Collection

Peel residents should start collecting their single-use household batteries for the Region's Fall curbside battery collection, which runs from November 7th to the 18th. Residents should have received a battery collection bag last month; if you did not receive one or have misplaced it, a bag can be picked up at any Community Recycling Centre or a regular zip-locked bag can be used.

Free Rides to Veterans on Remembrance Day

MiWay is offering Canadian Forces Veterans and their companion free rides on Friday, November 11th for Remembrance Day. Veterans should either wear their uniforms, medals or carry items that identify them as veterans to transit operators on the day.

MiWay Introduces Real-Time Bus Updates

Starting November 1st, MiWay riders will receive up-to-the-minute information about their next bus. The responsive Plan A Trip website will allow riders to know the exact time the bus will arrive at their stop and plan their trip better. The information will be refreshed every 60 seconds for scheduled routes and buses. Real-Time Bus Updates is available on the device of your choosing: desktop, tablet or mobile.

Stormwater Subsidies for Property Owners

Low-income seniors, persons with disabilities and owners of working farms may be eligible to recieve a stormwater subsidy, backdated to January 1st, 2016. Financial assistance to low-income seniors and low-income persons with disabilities will be based on the City's Tax Rebate Program. Staff will use the existing property tax rebate process and eligibility to automatically identify property owners who will be eligible for the subsidy. To see if you're eligible for the program, please review the Tax Rebate Program Application here.

Working Farms or properties that receive the Farm Property Class Tax Rate as determined by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) will also receive the subsidy.
