Summer events across Mississauga

There are many exciting events going on across the City this summer. I hope you can come out to celebrate the season, Canada Day and the Pan Am Games in Mississauga!

I've outlined some of the events coming up in this newsletter, but I'd also suggest visiting the Celebration Square website to see a full list of events going on in the City Centre this summer.

I hope to see you out there!

Stormwater Charge coming in 2016

On May 27, Council approved a stormwater charge which will reduce the risk of flooding and improve water quality in the City. The charge will be shown on your Region of Peel water bill in 2016. Learn what the charge means for you on my website.

Neighbours Night Out
June 16

Join me next week at Frank McKechnie Community Centre for Safe City's Neighbours Night Out.

You'll learn tips to defend yourself from  crime, while enjoying fun, food and entertainment with your neighbours. The event begins at 6:30pm.

The Pan Am Games Are Coming

Mississauga is proud to have been selected as a host city and is considered the fourth largest cluster for the games. The Pan Am Games run from July 10 to 26 and the Parapan Am Games from August 7 to 15.

Mississauga Sports Centre (Hershey Centre) will be the venue for the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am sports of judo, karate, taekwondo, and wrestling.

The TORONTO 2015 Parapan Am sports of goal ball, powerlifting, and wheelchair rugby will also take place there. Expect to see the highest level of competition!

Celebrate Canada Day in Mississauga

Free fun for everyone this Canada Day!

If you're in the Malton area, join us at Westwood Square, starting at 5pm. We'll have family-friendly entertainment, great food vendors and an extraordinary fireworks show to cap off the night. Learn more on my website.

There will also be events from 4:30pm at Celebration Square in the City Centre. Get more information on the Celebration Square website.

McLaughlin Rd. Update

On May 9, over 100 area residents met for a Community Workshop to learn more about the possible widening and to express their opinions. Many more contributed their views in writing to the City.

At this point, the City is finalizing the Environmental Assessment for the road, looking at the impacts of the proposed widening and alternative solutions and design that could improve traffic flow with less impact on the trees and local homeowners. Learn more here.
