Click here to access the WAC page on the suppliers website for everything except your club vest/singlet.  Items available include running tights (long and short), hoodies and tracksuit tops.  Most items have the WAC logo on them.  Items are made to order so allow a few weeks for delivery.  A delivery charge applies so you may want to combine your order with the requirements of other members.

March Newsletter

There are two important events in the WAC calendar this month.  Firstly, our Awards Night on 18th is looming up fast and this week is the last week for members to get their tickets!  Its a good night to get out and socialise with other runners enjoy a meal and have a boogie!  There is also a chance to win one of our free draw prizes, which include a free year's membership to WAC! 

Secondly, of course, its our 20 mile race on 26 March and Andrew is still keen to hear from anyone who is able to volunteer to help out at the event. WAC has a good reputation for the quality of our organisation and the friendliness of our Marshalls at our races and we want this to continue!  We would urge you all to please support your club with these two events. 

March is the last month for circuit training and police station training - Dave will be running some hill sessions at Earlham Park starting on 6 April until we can get on to the track at Hethersett.

WAC 20 mile race - 26 March 2017

It is less than a month to go until our 20 mile race on Sunday 26 March.  We need a lot of volunteers to make this happen, including over 60 volunteers round the course and at the four water stations.  At the moment there are a lot of gaps on our roster!  So, please volunteer if you are free.  We will give a race t shirt (short sleeved, technical material, like last year's) to all helpers, and there is also free tea / coffee and cake.  If you can help, please sign up on Monday nights or send an email to Race Director Andrew Lane at or  

Wymondham AC Awards Night 2017

Last chance to get your tickets!   We have extended the deadline to Monday 6 March but, if you can't get to club then, you can reserve your ticket(s) by emailing Cindy at  Full payment and all menu choices need to be with me on that Monday as well.  A form for menu choices is available here .

We also have a free prize draw on the night - so don't forget to bring your numbered entry ticket with you!

One of the purposes of the evening is to celebrate athletic achievements and contributions to the Club of its wonderful members.  See elsewhere in this newsletter for information about how you can vote on the awards decided on by the members.

There is a special rate for overnight stays at the Maids Head for those who don't want to drive home afterwards. The rate is £95 bed & breakfast in a double room for single occupancy or £105 for two guests. Contact the hotel direct to book a room - stating it is for the WAC Awards Night.

WAC Awards for 2016

Among the awards to be presented at the Awards Night (see elsewhere in this newsletter for details of how to get your ticket) are five awards that are voted on by the members.

Plese register your vote for the male and female road runners of 2016 and the male and female cross country runners of 2016.

Plesae also nominate someone for the Founders Shield and also let us know which charity you would like us to support in 2017.

In each case the awards can only be won by people who have been first claim members of WAC since the start of the relevant membership year (on 1 March 2016). To register your vote either:
  • email (you'll just need to delete names so that you choose one person in each category that you are voting for and type in a name for the Founder Members' Award and for your choice of charity)
  • print off the form here and hand your completed form to Roy Harvey or Tony Richardson.
The last day for voting is now Monday, 6 March 2017.  Votes received after that day will not be counted, nor will votes where there's more than one person selected in a category or voting intentions are unclear.  Only first claim fully paid up WAC members are entitled to vote.

February Race of the month - Valentine's 10k

23 Wymondham runners took part in this Leathes Prior and County Championship race. Almost perfect weather helped everyone along and several PBs were achieved.  Congratulations to Alex Smith for coming 1st in her age category and also getting the gold medal in the County Championships.  Also well done to  Alex Smith, Rebecca Fairclough and Zoe Jones for getting first ladies team prize and first ladies County veterans prize!

Adventure Camping Weekend at Fritton Park

The date for the proposed Adventure Camping weekend has been confirmed as 24/25 June.  The cost will be around £40 plus camping fee.  Various activities included are open water swim coach session, paddling session, mountain bike session plus a 10k run and other optional activities.  See the full suggested itinerary here.  If you are interested in this event, please have a word with Roy Harvey or drop him an email. If you are averse to camping it's not compulsory - just come along, enjoy the activities on offer and go home again to your warm bed!


2017/18 subscription due now

The WAC membership year now starts on 1 April so subscriptions for 2017/18 are due before the end of March if you’re planning to stay with the Club (which, of course, we hope that you will).
For the year from 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2018 the subscription is £35 (£21 for second claim members).  As there’s no saving to the Club (in fact it involves more work) the Committee has decided to drop the “Family” membership category.
We have decided to continue, for the time being at least, to work on the basis of an “all inclusive” rate which covers not only the Monday night sessions (and the tea and biscuits, of course) but also Thursday night circuits and coaching in the winter and the Thursday night track sessions in the summer.  It also includes the UKA affiliation fee (of £14 for 2017/18), which entitles you to a discount of at least £2 on entry fees for UKA affiliated races as well as other benefits.
The membership form is here.  Subscriptions can be paid by cheque, in cash, or by bank transfer.  Bank transfers are preferred but please make sure you use your name or UKA number as the reference.  Only when Tracy Stevens has received your form AND your payment can be identified will your subscription take effect.
There’s a good deal of work involved in handling subscriptions so please pay your subscription by 31 March at the very latest to avoid creating unnecessary extra work.
At just over 67p a week it feels like the £35 annual subscription represents great value.  We can achieve this in part because of the income that we get from the 20 mile and 10k races but also because those members who coach and organise and help stage events give their time freely (we make no payments to any officer or coach for their time acting as such).  But, as Tony explains later in the newsletter we need to spread the load.

A special request from the Chairman

I hope, and think you’ll agree (if you don’t, email me here and tell me why), that WAC is a great Club and that we have some wonderful and generous members who give huge amounts of their time for the benefit of other members. All of them do so as a matter of goodwill out of the desire to benefit and encourage fellow runners.  If you’re one of those lovely members we are hugely grateful to you and you need read no further.
If, however, that's not you then I’d ask that you read on as, if the Club is to continue in its present form, EVERY member needs to contribute something to the functioning of the Club, not just benefiting from it.  First by helping with one and, ideally, both, of the races, but also in at least one other way.  So the membership form for 2017/18 lists some of the things that contribute to the life of the Club and asks you to say what YOU are willing to do.  The reality is that we all have busy lives and other commitments, but that's as true of the coaches, results secretary, membership secretary and committee members as it is of anyone else.  Although, with nearly 200 members to share the work around, it shouldn’t require too much time from anyone if everyone does something.
Oh, and if you’re a new[ish] member, don’t be shy – it’s a good way to get to know other members better and, as I hope that you’ve realised, WAC members are lovely people, which is why I hope that all members will rise to the challenge.
And, finally, I hope that you’ll be renewing your membership but, if you’ve decided not to, or haven’t made up your mind, please email me here and tell me why.

Round Norfolk Relay 16-17 September 2017

WAC intend to enter two teams into the 2017 Round Norfolk Relay, a men's team and a ladies' team. Sign up sheets for runners and volunteers (whose help is needed to accompany and transport runners, with time-keeping, logistics and marshalling) will be available at Club Nights for the next few weeks.
If you’ve been involved before you’ll know how much fun this unique event is and just how much team work is involved between runners and volunteers.  If you haven’t, but you may like to get involved please take a look at the RNR website here and ask someone who has been involved in previous years.
If you do sign up as being interested in running please bear in mind that you may be called on as a helper!.

Inter-county 20m championship

2017 is the first year that Norfolk has been invited to enter a team into this race.

Congratulations to Jack Gillick and Steve Ely, who make up half of the team of four runners selected to represent the County.

The race is at Langham, on Sunday, 5 March 2017.  Good luck guys!
