Introducing a new WI campaign...

In the lead up to and following the Annual Meeting, WIs have been discussing the proposed ovarian cancer resolution and deciding how they wish to vote.
We are happy to confirm that the resolution ‘A call to increase awareness of the subtle signs of ovarian cancer’ has passed with a majority of 99.48%.
This means the resolution is now an NFWI mandate and will form the basis of a national WI campaign which all members are invited to work on.

You can read more and download our briefing on the new campaign with background information and some initial ideas about how you can take action here.

Celebrating our wonderful NHS and Frontline Workers!
From top left to right: Broughton WI, Beaconsfield WI, Towcester Evening WI
On Monday 5 July, WI members got together to celebrate the NHS' birthday and the NHS and Frontline Workers' Day. After working tirelessly throughout the pandemic and always being there for us when we need them most, it was an honour to dedicate a day to our incredible frontline workers. Several WI members also made the fabulous NHS 'drip' cake designed by Denman tutor and Pastry Chef Kelly Mauger. You can try your hand at recreating the cake using the
recipe on our website.
WI Highlight: Eastry WI

Eastry WI has yarn-bombed this marvelous postbox cover to raise awareness of the plight of bees. WI members have been campaigning to save the honeybee and our precious pollinators from the effects of climate change since we launched the SOS For Honeybees campaign in 2009.
WIs across the country celebrate Pride!
This summer, WIs have been holding picnics to celebrate Pride! While Covid restrictions have meant some local Pride parades and festivities have had to be postponed, WI members have been able to get together in smaller groups to celebrate Pride season and the LGBT+ community. Above shows Cottonopolis WI in Heaton Park holding their Pride picnic, and Henley WI's Pride flag display in their local park.
There are just over two months to go until The Climate Coalition's 'Great Big Green Week' - a national week of celebrating climate action!

There are many ways you can get involved! Whether it’s a community stall, a park clean up or a group of you getting planting in your local area - these activities will celebrate what you are doing to make your local area a cleaner, greener place to live. This will be an opportunity to raise the profile of climate change and how it is impacting the people and places we love right here in the UK and across the world. Find out more here.

NHS Volunteer Responders are calling for more Steward Volunteers to support at vaccination sites.

Requests for Steward Volunteers have soared in recent weeks and there are thousands of shifts that need filling in sites across the country every day. Steward Volunteers support with the efficient and safe movement of patients through vaccination sites, ensuring that social distancing measures are in place and identifying people who require additional support.
