Time for Cake WI at HMP Drake Hall Christmas cake competition
Over the festive period, the members of Time for Cake WI, one of our seven prison-based WIs took part in a Christmas bake-a-cake competition. Governor Hardwick, one of the judges said,

“A delight to judge and I loved the way the cakes represented different Christmas cultures, no losers in this competition with the exception of my waist line. Both myself and the other judges thought some of the cakes would do well in any competition let alone cooked in a prison with limited ingredients.”

A vital year for climate action

In November 2021, the UK will be hosting COP26, the 26th annual UN global climate conference. COP26 will be the biggest diplomatic conference the UK has ever hosted, with over 200 world leaders set to attend. We will be working closely with The Climate Coalition to provide WI members with plenty of activities and events to attend in the lead up to COP26. This includes Show The Love 2021, the annual green heart making campaign. Find out more about the WI's climate change work here.
WI Spotlight: Bricket Wood WI
For Christmas, members of Bricket Wood WI and friends in Hertfordshire made 62 quilts to donate to their local Women’s Refuge. Here are the beautiful quilts on display shortly before they were donated. Members also put together a Christmas bag for each resident at the refuge filled with books, toys, games, toiletries, fluffy socks and other goodies. The refuge aims to provide a safe and comfortable environment for women and children escaping domestic abuse.
