Hopkins Activity Center News & Notes

Senior Outreach & Caregiver Support Services

Although COVID-19 has temporarily closed many places where people enjoy congregating, including the Hopkins Activity Center, it is important to note that Senior Community Services Senior Outreach staff are still available to meet 1:1 (at a safe place of your choosing) or speak with you via phone or computer.

If you feel a licensed Social Worker can assist you, Bob Anderson, MSW, LISW can be contacted at 952-888-7121 or b.anderson@seniorcommunity.org.

In addition, Senior Community Services offers “virtual family support groups” to caregivers caring for loved ones with dementia or some other form of chronic illness. View a list of caregiver support groups and contact a Social Worker listed for assistance, and know that you do not have to be alone in the process of caregiving.

Musical Event

Supporting Our Neighbors

All of us are talking about the “unprecedented” times we are living through… Times during which Vail Place has successfully created and provided opportunities for connection despite the challenges we are facing.

The team at Vail Place, a local mental health agency, has created an original musical – "Gearing Up for Changing Times" – specifically intended to be experienced virtually. Find out about how to join this incredible virtual musical event on October 21 at noon, and other unique ways that Vail Place is creating an environment of support and encouragement at https://www.vailplace.org/.

A Past Culture

Tues, Oct 20, 1 pm

What does it look like when worlds collide and create new communities? “Stories from the Tamil Diaspora” traces a Singaporean Tamil family’s history back to Tamil Nadu, India, in the early 20th century. The presenter shares experiences of British colonialism, Tamil performing arts practices, and Singapore’s transition from colony to an independent, multicultural, and global nation. Participants will gain intimate insight into Singaporean culture, through storytelling. Register by 9 pm Monday to attend this engaging cultural experience.
