Message from the TAP Coordinators: Opportunities abound for Post-2015 Summit and beyond

Dear TAP Friends,

We hope many of you have had an opportunity to enjoy some much-needed and well-deserved rest and time away from work these past few weeks! With the Post-2015 negotiations behind us, and with the Post-2015 Summit and adoption of the 2030 Agenda ahead of us, opportunities abound yet again for our collective work over these next few months ahead. The UN expects the highest level of engagement from Heads of State and Government in the history of the UN for the Post-2015 Summit, which is an affirmation of the importance of all of the great work that you all have undertaken over the past several months (and few years)!

As we look ahead to the opportunities that we will have for our ongoing advocacy, the Post-2015 Summit stands as only one blip on the radar. Negotiations in the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly over the October and November months will provide significant opportunities for us to influence these processes still, including on follow-up and review and accountability and the role of stakeholders in these processes going forward. Our great work around the Post-2015 negotiations has set the stage perfectly for our work around Second Committee matters these next couple of months, and we're better positioned than ever to influence these discussions.

We are also looking forward to the Second Meeting of the Interagency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) in Bangkok, from 26-28 October, where NSOs and technical experts on statistics will gather to shape the global indicators for the SDGs. Our TAP Network Data/Indicators Working Group has been working very hard over the month of August to prepare for the IAEG-SDGs meeting and beyond, so if you are interested in contributing to this work, you can join and contribute by filling out the form here. TAP will also be providing travel funding for a technical expert from within the Network to attend the IAEG-SDGs, to help us in our advocacy efforts in Bangkok. For those interested in applying for travel funding, please fill out the form here

As we now all start to come back together for the Post-2015 Summit and beyond, these next few months ahead will provide numerous opportunities for us to engage and contribute towards. As always, we look forward to following these discussions closely and working with you all to influence these processes, as we take a turn towards the implementation and accountability phase of the 2030 Agenda.

Best Regards,
TAP Coordinators
John & Liam

TAP NETWORK UPDATES
Nominations for TAP Funding: Second Meeting of IAEG-SDGs, 26-28 October, Bangkok:

With the Second Meeting of the Interagency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) approaching from October 26-28 in Bangkok, we are pleased to announce that the TAP Network Steering Committee has decided to use TAP funding to fund the participation of a technical expert from within the Network to attend the IAEG-SDGs. This meeting of the IAEG-SDGs will be a very important meeting for us to influence and cover, particularly as we push on as a Network around data/indicators for the SDGs and Goal 16, with this work also having broader implications on follow-up and review and accountability for the SDGs as well.

If you are interested in being considered to represent the TAP Network at the IAEG-SDGs meeting in Bangkok from 26 – 28 October, with or without TAP funding, please fill out the nomination form here: http://bit.ly/1EF8eoz
. The deadline for nominations is Thursday, 24 September, so please submit your nominations ASAP.

For your reference, the TAP Network Steering Committee will chose this TAP representative, based on the following criteria:
  • IMPORTANT: Prior confirmation of selection by UN to attend the IAEG-SDGs meeting. OFFICIAL APPLICATION HERE: http://bit.ly/1TRJYXp (Official UN Deadline: 8 September)
  • Extensive expertise in the relevant subjects that will be discussed at the IAEG-SDGs, including data, measurement of development issues and indicators.
  • High level of engagement in previous TAP Network work around data/indicators.
  • Willingness to represent and undertake advocacy on behalf of the TAP Network and provide additional support for TAP’s work at the IAEG-SDGs, as necessary.
As we do with every other key advocacy opportunity, it will be important for us to know which TAP members are planning on attending the IAEG-SDGs. So if you are planning on attending, with or without funding from TAP, please also fill out the form so we can coordinate with all of you while we are in Bangkok. You can also engage with the work of the TAP Network Data/Indicators Working Group by joining the google group here: http://bit.ly/1hUi7Fk

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions at all about the process for nominations, and we look forward to receiving your nominations for the IAEG-SDGs meeting soon!
