Message from the TAP Coordinators: TAPping into the Network

Dear TAP Friends,

In our first week after the marathon-like two weeks of negotiations on FfD and Post-2015 in April we've made great progress as the TAP Network in coming together around key messages outlined in our position papers on SDG Indicators and Accountability. We've always said that the strength of the TAP Network comes from the work and impetus of all of you and your organizations, and nowhere is this better reflected than the work we've collectively undertaken and contributed to over the past few weeks.

On that note, we are in the process of finalizing the TAP Network SDG Indicators position paper, which will serve as the main basis of our advocacy around the framework for indicators for the SDGs, and in particular around Goal 16. We will circulate this final version around to the Network next week for endorsements, so please be on the lookout for that.

The TAP Network Accountability position paper is now open for comments and edits until Monday 4 May. You can find more information about the Accountability paper in the newsletter below, and you can contribute on the google doc here:
http://bit.ly/1z66ulvWe have a couple of events around the next Post-2015 negotiation session on "follow up and review" in the works, which will provide additional opportunities for us to present our Accountability position paper - so stay tuned for additional information from us on that front.

Thanks also to those of you who were able to join us for our latest TAP Network call this week. For those of you who were unable to join, you can find the minutes from the call here. There has been a lot that we've been following over the past few weeks, so these calls (and these newsletters) are a key way for us to connect with all of you with our observations and analysis from the negotiations, and helps us plan and strategize our collective priorities and activities going forward.

There will be a lot going on over the next few weeks, so we want to thank you all in advance for your time and attention to the work of the TAP Network, as we take some very important work for all of us forward.

Best Regards,
TAP Coordinators
John & Liam

TAP Network Position Paper on Accountability:

UNDESA has invited us to submit a paper on this topic to the HLPF this year, which will be included as an official input into the HLPF, with translation into the six official languages of the UN. In order to meet the deadline that DESA has given us to submit our paper (6 May), it will require us to turn a final draft around in very quick order. It also allows us to have enough time to seek endorsements/sign-on for the position paper for our outreach to Member States the following week. Therefore, we just wanted to stress again that it is very important that we have as much contribution to this first draft as possible - so please provide your substantive inputs before the first deadline of COB (NY time) on Monday, 4 May.

Please provide your comments on the google doc here: http://bit.ly/1z66ulv

We will then turn this first draft around overnight on Monday, and have a second draft available for a quick window (24-36 hours) of final comments from Tuesday-Wednesday.

Timeline:
  • Deadline for first round of comments/edits from TAP organizations – Monday, 4 May, COB NY Time
  • Coordinators to send out second draft overnight on Tuesday morning
  • Deadline for final comments from TAP organizations – Wednesday, 10 AM EST
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions at all, or have any technical issues in accessing or contributing to the google doc, and we look forward to finalizing this paper and taking it forward with you all soon.
