Congratulations to Virginia Tech School of Architecture + Design 's Joe Wheeler on being named one of the nation's most innovative people in housing by Hanley Wood for his work on FutureHAUS. He joins prominent awardees, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk, in Los Angeles to accept a HIVE 100 Innovators Award. more
A show of M.Arch2 graduate student work opened at the Branch Museum of Architecture and Design in Richmond on Thursday 29 September. The show is ongoing through December. more

NEW - 2017 Land Art Competition
Nka Foundation invites submissions from creative practitioners and institutions dedicated to community place making to participate in its 2017 Land Art Competition. The competition is open to landscape architects, artists, curators, designers, architects, urban planners, engineers, university students and others from around the world to submit their ideas for large-scale and site specific public art installations based on site in rural Ghana. Submission deadline is February 15, 2017.

NEW - Washington Semester, Leadership through Policy and Governance
Located in Old Town Alexandria, the Washington Semester, Leadership through Policy and Governance program offers a unique 11-week immersion into work experience within the nation’s capital. Students will learn about and work on challenging public policy issues that shape communities locally and nationally while obtaining academic credit. Washington Semester Fellows will also attend seminars that enable them to understand their internship from a range of analytical perspectives. Open to all majors who have earned a minimum of 60 credits and are in good academic standing. Information Sessions upcoming: October 10th 1-2pm; October 11th 10:30-11:30am in Room 111 of the Architecture Annex. First application deadline is November 12th.
NEW - Tour of the SUPRASTUDIO program facilities at UCLA's department of Architecture & Urban Design. If any faculty or students are interested in a tour of their new IDEAS campus you can register for free here.
AIAWV Scholarship
AIAWV has scholarships available for West Virginia natives who are enrolled in professional architecture programs. Any West Virginia native in either the undergraduate or graduate architecture programs who wish to apply for the AIAWV Scholarship can obtain the application from Nora Stover in the school offices in 201 Cowgill. The application deadline is October 18, 2016.
Brinkmann Scholarship
Awards students enrolled in US not-for-profit CIDA-accredited interior design programs with academic scholarships and summer internship opportunities. Submission deadline is December 4, 2016.
Diversity Scholarship
Awards African-American students enrolled in US not-for-profit NAAB-accredited architecture programs with academic scholarships and summer internship opportunities. Submission Deadline is December 4, 2016.

Brad Whitney is a professor teaching in the interior design program. An avid painter and photographer, he presents his first solo show in Blacksburg at XYZ. The selected paintings are part of a larger body of work created during summer 2015 through summer 2016.
