SCHOOL NEWS

The Toilettes Ecolo team invites you to come hear about their research in Senegal and their dry-toilet design proposal to address gender inequality issues and lack of access to proper sanitation facilities on Thursday May 5th at 1pm in Cowgill Hall (Room 300). We will discuss the scope and challenges regarding designing of sustainable toilets in public schools in Senegal. Furthermore, we will break down the need for our research, highlight our survey findings from our site school, and describe our proposed response to the issue. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session. (click on flyer to open larger file)
Dr. Humberto Rodriguez-Camilloni, Architecture Professor, had an essay, "Late Gothic architecture at Guadalupe and Saña on the northern Peruvian coast and the function of rib vaulting", recently published in Postmedieval: a journal of medieval cultural studies, Vol. 6, 3, Fall 2015, p. 289-303.

COMPETITIONS

Final submission deadline today
The Virtue Hotel will be Charlotte's largest hotel and its only smart hotel. We are looking for the most innovative architectural design from the most creative people. Early submission deadline is April 5, final submission deadline is May 2, 2016.

Arthur N. Tuttle Jr. Fellowship in Health Facility Planning and Design
This fellowship is intended to increase architecture and healthcare students' awareness of the special needs and nature of healthcare facilities; to attract talented young architects and students to this field; to advanced the knowledge of planning and design for healthcare environments, and to establish relevant research material for the profession of healthcare architecture. Application due by May 26, 2016.
J. Armand Fellowship in GFI interest areas of Health Facility Planning and Design
This fellowship is intended to encourage research consistent with the overall mission of FGI; to attract talented young architects and students to this field' and to advance the knowledge of planning and design for healthcare environments. Application due by September 30, 2016.
Programming, Planning and the Practice of Designing Health Facilities - Academy of Architecture for Health Foundation Legacy Fellowship.
This fellowship is intended to encourage research related to the programming and planning healthcare facilities; to attract talented young architects and students to this field; to advance the knowledge of planning and design for healthcare environments; and to better understand the dynamics of the team environment and what makes successful project delivery teams. Applications due by May 26, 2016.

Join AIA Virginia in a celebration of the very best work from designers working from Virginia.
The Awards for Excellence in Architecture recognize outstanding design - both built and unbuilt - in these five categories: 
Contextual Design
Residential Design
Architecture
Historic Preservation
Interior Design
 All entries must be the work of architects who have an office in Virginia or are members (including associate members) of AIA Virginia. The location of projects is not restricted, but built work must have been completed after Jan. 1, 2009.
DEADLINES
Entries with project submissions: 5 p.m. on June 13, 2016
