The Deborah J. Norden Fund, a program of The Architectural League of New York, was established in 1995 in memory of architect and arts administrator Deborah Norden. The Fund has supported a fascinating array of projects, from a study of the Cambodian modernist Vann Molyvann, to the social impact of new architecture and planning interventions in Medellin, Colombia, to the insertion of built form into fragile ecosystems in Australia, to the stereotomy of complex surfaces in French Baroque architecture. The Leicester B. Holland Prize is an annual competition that recognizes the best single-sheet measured drawing of an historic building, site, or structure prepared by an individual(s) to the standards of the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), Historic American Engineering Record (HAER), or the Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS). The prize is supported by the Paul Rudolph Trust, American Institute of Architects, and the Center for Architecture, Design & Engineering in the Library of Congress, and administered by the Heritage Documentation Programs of the National Park Service (HABS/HAER/HALS). The 2015 DesignBuild Studio will explore the process of developing conceptual solutions and translating them into a built space. The program will be led by instructors Luke W. Perry and Miriam Gee, designers, architects, and builders with over 18 years combined experience.
The DesignBuild Studio is open to collegiate and graduate level students who are interested in learning more about the built environment and how it interfaces with individuals and local communities. The DesignBuild Studio will be an equivalent of six credit hours and will work with students to help with the transfer of credit with their host College or University. Apply by April 15, 2015.

Lighting Education Toolkit Available from
The Nuckolls Fund
“Lighting Across the [Design] Curriculum,” is a multi-disciplinary, multi-university approach to lighting education initiated by a group of educators and funded by the $50,000 Twentieth Anniversary Grant awarded by the Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education.
Applicable to architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and architectural engineering, the curriculum provides 7 interactive modules with content, examples, definitions, and educator resources, supplemented with animations, audio, and other interactive features. AIAS will be hosting the 3rd annual Block Out Competition, in which teams of students will be asked to design and build compositions on the plaza using CMU blocks.
The winning team will receive a $100 MishMish gift certificate, along with trophies and bragging rights!
Teams will each have one day to build and document their work, starting Sunday (4/12) through Wednesday (4/15). Teams may be up to five people, and there is a registration fee of $10 per team. The registration fee should be paid in cash to April Pilcher (in Michael Ermann's studio on the 4th floor) to save your spot. Build day choice is first come, first served based on registration fee.
The prompt will be announced Sunday (4/12), and the awards reception will be hosted by AIAS at 5:30 on Wednesday, April 22nd. Food and festivities will be provided.
