ANNOUNCEMENTS

Monday, October 17th - Last day for students to resign without grade penalty. First and required contact for resignation is Kathryn Albright, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for CAUS, for undergraduate students or the dean of the Graduate School for grad students. Submit completed resignation form to the University Registrar's office by 5pm.
Monday, October 17th - Last day to change grade option from P/F to A-F, 5pm. Visit the University Registrar in 250 Student Services Buildings to process grade change option.

Tuesday, October 18th - Opening of Web Course Request for Spring 2017 - the University Registrar would like to bring it to your attention that there is a new link within Hokie Spa for course request. Please reference this screenshot for the location of the new link. Despite the new link within Hokie Spa, the course request process remains unchanged.
Thursday, October 20th - University closing at 2pm - this does NOT include classes, please check with your professors about classes after that time. Check here about where you can/cannot park and when you need to leave certain parking lots.
Friday, October 21st - Last day to apply for Fall 2016 graduation in order to be included in the Fall Commencement bulletin.

Supporting the research projects of the recipients of the 2016 Milka Bliznakov Research Prize, the IAWA Group will introduce treasures uncovered during the initial stages of research. flyer

Meet current faculty and students, view studio design work and tour our facilities in Old Town with a recent program alumnus. Submit to Studio Collective
Studio Collective is now accepting work from architecture, industrial design, interior design, landscape architecture, and graphic design students to be published in the Student Work Section of our journal, released in December 2016. 
Work will be judged by a panel of faculty and students, and receives significant recognition if chosen.
Submit by October 24th!
AIAS T-Shirt Design Competition
You may choose the color of the t-shirt and the two colors within the design. You must include AIAS and 2016 somewhere in the design. You may design the back, the chapter will design the front. Deadline is October 30th flyer
The FORM: Line-Plane-Solid exhibition features 200+ projects by students from the Virginia Tech Form Studio (2011-2014) will be on display Oct. 10-Nov. 30, 2016, at the Downtown Arts Center. The public lecture and reception is Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. Exhibit catalogs are also available for purchase at the Center. press release flyer

This compeition challenges designers and architects to envision how the office of the future will support workers' needs for privacy, light, nature, noise reducation, community, and health. International Art & Design Competition 2017
Florence, sometimes called the “museum of no roof ”, is the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. The city of which modern Italy is proud as a center of art had reached one of its pinnacles between the 14th and 16th centuries, when creative energies and techniques of artisans flourished. “The International Art & Design Competition” takes place in this marvelous environment. The aim of the competition is to contribute to the revitalization and internationalization of the entire Italian Art, Design and Crafts industries, by discovering new artists, fostering their talents, and in the meantime promoting the study abroad in Italy. deadline January 10, 2017  flyer

SCHOLARSHIPS & OPPORTUNITIES

NEW - Now in its eleventh year, the Fellowship provides students with an opportunity to enrich their education with both travel and office experience. The Fellowship is available to undergraduate and graduate students in planning, architecture, landscape architecture or urban design who will be entering their final year of study in September 2017. Hart Howerton defines an 8-week professional internship “assignment” as part of an existing firm project, followed by the Fellow’s self-defined, approved topic of travel study.  The 3-week travel period’s findings are prepared, upon return, as a report presented by the Fellow to the firm. DEADLINE TOMORROW - AIAWV Scholarship
AIAWV has scholarships available for West Virginia natives who are enrolled in professional architecture programs. Any West Virginia native in either the undergraduate or graduate architecture programs who wish to apply for the AIAWV Scholarship can obtain the application from Nora Stover in the school offices in 201 Cowgill. The application deadline is October 18, 2016. more
Forecast is an interdisciplinary platform, which now has started its second edition and will invite 30 talents from fields such as art, architecture, music, dance, design, etc. to Haus de Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in March 2017. Mentors such as curator Hou Hanru, designer Heather Martin, video artist Bjorn Melhus, architect Philippe Rahm, choreographer Richard Siegal, and composer Jennifer Walshe will accompany chosen projects to fruition. The international open call for the second edition is online until November 30, 2016. more
