Remembering Morton L. Mandel
We are saddened to share the news that the namesake of the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach, Morton L. Mandel, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2019. Morton L. Mandel (9/19/1921 - 10/16/2019, pictured in center with his brothers) was a renowned business leader, philanthropist, author and dedicated social entrepreneur.
The generosity of Morton, along with his brothers, Jack (1912-2011) and Joseph (1913-2016), has made a global impact. Through their foundation and individually, the Mandel brothers have donated more than $900 million to Jewish, educational and cultural causes around the world. He was a passionate advocate for education, leadership and building strong communities, and continuously saw potential in people, places and ideas that no one else did.
Our gratitude for his support of our City, and this great Library is everlasting. The Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach has become a state-of-the-art learning center and community resource thanks in part to his generosity, leadership and vision. We are proud to carry on his legacy by providing opportunities and resources to help the potential be realized in all of our community members.
“Every day, they pay tribute to what I believe: that a single individual can change the world. Powerful ideas, driven by outstanding people, represent a sure way to light more candles and help illuminate the world.” - Morton L. Mandel
