can all be tested by how well we support our libraries."

Foundation Builds Partnership with
Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens

The West Palm Beach Library Foundation raises critical funds for the programs, services and collections at the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach, which serves thousands of people each day as a learning center, community builder and source of inspiration.  We are also delighted when we can share our programs and services beyond our walls to help and inspire even more people.  The WPBLF is proud to partner with the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens this fall to bring our valued Mandel Public Library programs into the community.  Don't miss this unique partnership!

Literacy Day in the Garden - October 7
Guests got to meet our specially trained therapy dogs (Kermit, Fozzy Bear, and Riley) from the Dog Tales program in the Garden.  Children were able to read aloud to our furry friends, improving their literacy skills while snuggling up with these nonjudgemental "listeners" and making reading a more engaging and enjoyable experience.  In addition, Children's Librarian Jeanne Taylor was on site with fun activities for kids including creating their own nature journal.

Storytimes in the Garden - Fridays, November 1, 8, 15 & 22
Families with children ages 2-6 can experience a unique and inspiring outdoor storytime in the garden. Mandel Public Library Children’s Librarians will read books aloud to children in this beautiful tropical garden, and provide arts and crafts activities or other hands-on experiences.  Plus guests can take a tour of the garden and experience the historic home, monumental garden sculptures, and two-acre tropical garden sanctuary.

The Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens comprise the former residence of sculptor Ann Weaver Norton (1905 -1982), the widow of Ralph Hubbard Norton. The house is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and the two acre property, featuring a collection of 250 species of tropical palms, lies near downtown West Palm Beach on the Intracoastal Waterway.

Nickie Hennevelt Nominated for Hats Off Award

Nickie Hennevelt, WPBLF Director of Administration and Finance, was recently nominated for a Hats Off Nonprofit Award for 2019 Nonprofit Professional of the Year.  Nickie, our office professional extraordinaire, was nominated for her hard work, dedication, and going above and beyond the call of duty while the foundation was searching for a new Executive Director this past year.  The foundation would not have survived the year without her commitment and we are thrilled to have her recognized.

The Hats Off Nonprofit Awards honor Palm Beach County nonprofit organizations, staff and volunteers who are dedicated to the business of doing good in our community. The reception and inspiring awards program took place Tuesday, October 1 at the Harriet Himmel Theater.  While another nominee took home the award this year, Nickie's passion and commitment to the Foundation make her the big WINNER to all of us!

DOG TALES
This is Kermit, one of the specially trained therapy dogs at the Mandel Public Library, "listening" to one of our young readers.  Dog Tales is one of the many innovative literacy programs that is made possible by your generous donations.  This beloved program allows reluctant readers to snuggle up and read aloud to our furry friends making reading a positive experience while improving their comprehension.
