CEO Report by Joe Coyte:

It has been a great and exciting couple of months at The Glen.

We have been honoured to have a visit from The Prime Minister of Australia with the highlight being the way he sat around the fire and spoke with the clients hearing some of our stories (that's what The Glen is all about). I am sure he went away inspired that The Glen is part of the solution to the well documented drug and alcohol problems in Australia. Lets hope that the new federal "ICE" money which will be announced soon, finds its way to us here at The Glen.

We have officially opened our touch footy field with a wonderful day of touch footy with some of our corporate supporters. It was great to see teams from all different walks of life come together and have fun on our new facility and even better to see 'The Glen' won the tightly contested grand final against KPMG in extra time.

The Glen is excited that we are about to grow by opening new residential rehabilitation beds and we are also going to open a part time medical clinic. What is important to remember though is that the quality of the service we offer clients doesn't get compromised or decrease. The client entering 'The Glen' next year needs to get the same access to services and quality program that a client in 'The Glen' today receives. This is why we need your continued support. There is still a lot of work to do.

2. Program Highlights

Education programs
We are continuing to run our educational sessions - we were recently at Baxter detention and Berkley Vale High School which both received very positive feedback. We also invited the Central Coast Rugby League U18s Centurions to The Glen for a game of touch and a yarn around the fire to share some stories about drug and alcohol.

We don't get funded to run these education chats - we do them because it's the right thing to do.

The Glen Dance Crew - Harmony Day performance with the Central Coast Mariners

Wheelchair basketball competition at Northlakes High School
The Glen entered two teams at a recent Wheelchair Basketball Clash at Northlakes High School, organised by San Remo Neighbourhood Centre. Our teams didn't fair too  well but we had heaps of fun.

Also received some positive feedback from Event Organiser, Warren Manners:

"I spent most of yesterday speaking with other people involved in the Clash and without exception everyone expressed their appreciation of the Glen crew and how their involvement made the night a memorable and fun experience. Again please pass on my thanks to all your team members and staff."
3. The Glen Events
Official opening of the touch footy field

We held out first touch footy comp on a new footy field. It was a rain soaked day, but didn't stop everyone from having an awesome day. The Glen Boys finished on top, after drawing at full-time and going into a drop-off with KPMG. Also, some tough competition from Bunnings TuggerahBunnings West GosfordMingara One FitnessWestpac who all sponsored the footy field upgrade with Karen Mcnamara MP, Federal Member for Dobell David Harris MP and Wyong Shire Council.

Thanks to Department of Sport and Recreation for running the day and Doyalson Touch Football Association for bringing referees.

Official opening of the new Bunnings buildings
Due to the weather, we had to delay the opening of the new Bunnings Buildings, but we will re-schedule a time soon for an official opening with a few presentations and thank yous.

4. Client Story
"Before I came to The Glen I had nothing. I hardly had my family. I had lost all of my friends. I was just selling drugs & using all day, every day. Since coming here I have got my family again, have some friends back & I have finished the 12 week program and now I am working. The Glen has given me everything back again & a fresh start in life. I can recommend The Glen to anyone who needs help & support with addiction."

A message through Facebook:

"Hey guys, its been 1 year since my partner spent time with you at The Glen. I don't know how to thank you all enough! The Glen was our last hope, I had nothing left in me to cope with his addiction anymore. I was broken but when you love someone as much as I love him you can't give up. I called yous as a last desperate attempt to save my family and I'm so grateful I did! I know that its only been a year alcohol free and it hasn't been easy and relapse will always be something we will have to fight against but I will fight until the day I die to support him. We now have two Beautiful baby boys that will have a great life because you helped their daddy overcome his addiction so thank you once again you truly changed our life!"
In the 3 months so far 2016, The Glen has received 465 applications, but could only admit 37 new clients during this period due to full occupancy. As soon as a bed is available, it is filled by the next day. The new admissions to The Glen so far have identified the following as their major drug of concern:
  • Alcohol 54%
  • Amphetamine (Ice) 39%
  • Cannabis 7%
  • Other 0%
Our client survey data shows the average program score of 8.38 in the month of March which is well above our benchmark.

Quarterly stakeholder survey
