In this newsletter: a health update on Dean and the upcoming CF Climb for Life (Nov 5th).
Health Update
In October, Dean had his quarterly checkup with g
reat weight, great height, increasing BMI and lung function >100%. The doctor wasn't comfortable with a trend over the past year of declining lung function (it was extremely high to begin with). Until now, Dean's cultures have always been taken by swabbing the back of his throat. His very patient respiratory therapist worked extra long with him during his visit to help him cough up sputum to culture, hoping we can get a better idea of what is deeper in his lungs. His culture came back without the presence of any dangerous bacteria. After 14 days of antibiotics, we will take Dean back to do a repeat lung function test and see if there is any change from the last one. We are not accepting this is his norm so, along with his CF team, are working with his pediatrician and chiropractor to get his body back to its ideal condition to fight off anything that comes his way. The lesson learned is that we cannot control everything but the reality of it is that CF can be silent and hidden and damaging and scary He is still going strong, active, energetic, positive and will persevere through everything that is thrown his way. We will post an update to the Eat. Pray. Dean Facebook page on Nov. 9th.
CF Climb for Life
Dean has been asking for years to do the CF Climb. We resisted for a variety of reasons but this year is his. He came up with an amount that he thought would be "easy" to reach (umm, $90k is not so easy let me tell you) and asked us to help him spread it around the world! We did our best this year and so very many people joined in. After starting the year with a few events, many more were added to the calendar as people accepted his challenge to do #somthinglikethis to help him meet his goal and raise more awareness for Cystic Fibrosis.

As of today, Dean is 56% of the way to his goal (a HUGE amount for our grassroots efforts). We're pushing hard through the end of the year. Please share your page if you are climbing with him on Sunday asking your family and friends to donate to his goal. Can you imagine what could happen if even half of our Facebook friends donated $10 each?!?  If you're not climbing, please share Dean's page to help him. We'll make it easy, you can copy and paste this next part to your email or social media.

This is a 7 year old boy named Dean who is raising money to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. His challenge is to climb 56 flights of stairs one Sunday this year in a building in Chicago. He needs your help. Oh and he has CF himself, so this challenge means so much to him and his family. Can you help him reach his goal. No amount is too small, $10 will make a difference! Watch his video, donate, and thank you for doing #somethinglikethis

If you are climbing with Dean, we will meet you at 300 N. LaSalle between 8 and 8:15 am on Sunday Nov 5th (don't forget the time change this weekend)! Email with questions or if you do not have an Eat. Pray. Dean shirt so we can get you one asap!
