Festival of Inclusion - Events Organised by Southside Partnership DLR and Living Well with Dementia 

As part of this year's dlr Festival Southside Partnership DLR including its Women's Programme, Southside Local Employment Service, Living Well with Dementia and other related projects are going to run a lot of events starting this Friday with "Pleasure of Art". The full list of events run by us is available of the Southside Partnership DLR website (please click here).

Youth at Risk Network Event - 26th September 2019

Another very successful Youth at Risk Network (YAR) Event took place on September 26th 2019. The theme for the day was Collaboration and over 30 organisations and groups (supporting young people) from all over the DLR County came together to network, share information and work together to identify new and exciting ways to collaborate. Southside Partnership DLR and DLR Drug and Alcohol Task Force would like to thank everyone for giving their time and energy to this exciting and worthwhile morning. We look forward to our next YAR Network in November (28th November 2019 from 9.30am-1pm / venue to be confirmed).

dlr Festival of Inclusion - October 4th - October 12th 2019 - Celebrating Generations
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council are hosting this year's Festival of Inclusion, taking place between the 4th and 12th of October 2019. This year’s Festival theme is “Celebrating Generations”. As every year, the festival highlights the tremendous work of the various community groups and organisations in the county. Events include taster courses, open days, fashion shows, family events and much more. Southside Partnership DLR will be represented during the week with a variety of events organised by our various programmes and projects (please check the Festival Programme for more details).
For example, the Southside Partnership Women's Programme EU WEMIN Project will be hosting a Multicultural Women's Breakfast on Wed Oct 9th 2019 from 10-1pm at the County Hall. The Living Well with Dementia Programme will also be hosting a wide range of activities. There will also be a Social Enterprise Information event and much more. New Southside Community Training Network Courses this Autumn

In addition to the Intermediate Motivational Interviewing course which will be running on Oct 7th and 14th this autumn (see below), Southside Community Training Network will be running the following courses this autumn:

We are also currently looking at running another Introduction to Motivational Interviewing course. If you are interested in that, please get in touch to be added to our waiting list. 

Our courses will be open to anyone working with a local community group or organisation in DLR which has a social inclusion focus or those who are interested in working in this field.

Intermediate Course in Motivational Interviewing - Oct 7th and 14th 2019

As part of its autumn programme Southside Community Training Network will be running an Intermediate Level course on Motivational Interviewing following our two successful Introductory courses facilitated by Brian Foley. 

The dates for the Intermediate course are Oct 7th and 14th 2019, but at this moment the course is fully booked. However, if you are working for a community group with a social inclusion focus in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown and are interested in being added to the waiting list for this course or if you would like to find out more, please contact Lisa Sieger-Jamison at or phone 087 737 0372.

A Perfect Global City Exhibition Launch at the next Multicultural Women's Breakfast

As part of the WEMIN Art Project the Southside Partnership DLR Women's Programme will be launching the A Perfect Global City Exhibition during Social Inclusion Week on Wednesday the 9th of October 2019. The event will coincide with the next Multicultural Women’s Breakfast from 10am to 1pm at the Assembly Hall in DLR County Council, Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin. Charity Coffee Morning at Ballybrack Project Centre

Ballybrack Project Centre will be hosting a Coffee Morning in aid of Harold Cross & Blackrock Hospice as part of next week's Festival of Inclusion on October 8th from 10am-12 noon. Everyone is very welcome.

Living Well with Dementia Weekly Activities

Are you or someone you care about living with dementia? Living Well with Dementia run a number of weekly activities that are particularly welcoming to people living with dementia, their families and carers. Balally Family Resource Centre - New Courses this Autumn

Balally Family Resource Centre have a great range of courses available this autumn, some of which have already started, but they may still accept new participants. The courses include Chair Yoga, Going Green Sustainably, International Cookery, Mindfulness & Self Care, Intermediate Art and a 'Get Creative' course.

Understanding Self-Harm Workshops - HSE

As part of the Connecting for Life Strategy for Community Healthcare East the HSE will be offering two workshops on Understanding Self-Harm in December. 

04 December 2019:     Clonskeagh Hospital Conference Centre, Dublin 6

10 December 2019:     Taylor Centre, Vevay Road, Bray, Co. Wicklow

The aim of this one-day awareness training programme is to develop participants' knowledge and understanding of self-harming behaviour.

The Workshop
The workshop provides opportunities to improve knowledge, awareness and understanding of self-harm. Participants consider how personal attitudes and experiences might affect their helping role with a person who self-harms. It aims to clarify what self-harm is, what leads people to engage in the behaviour and considers its relationship with suicide. The causes, reasons behind the behaviour, and the functions are discussed. Positive approaches to engaging with and caring for someone who self-harms are presented. Active participation is encouraged. It is stimulated by audio-visuals and working with others in small groups.

Who should attend:
Individuals and people from agencies in the Community Healthcare East (CHO6) region, South Dublin, Dun
Laoghaire & Wicklow
who work with young people, the homeless, those in the addiction services and those recovering from mental health issues. Also Gardai, teachers, residential care staff, people in caring professions, parents and concerned members of the public, who seek to understand more about self-harm, the reasons underlying self-harm behaviours and to improve responses to those people who self-harm.

Understanding Self-Harm Training is not suitable for those aged under 18.

The training is free but booking is essential.

PRISM DLR's New Meeting Schedule
HSE Workshop on Support for Those Bereaved Through Suicide

This new workshop consists of a one-day session on bereavement and grieving, particularly in the context of suicide. It will support participants to develop a greater understanding of the grieving process demonstrating the value of empathy, compassion and humanity and the importance of meeting people where they are at.
Workshop Dates:

Monday   Dec 09 2019         9am-5pm     Taylor Centre, Bray, Co.Wicklow

Workshop Requirements:
Be a professional or key contact person, over 18 years, working in Community Health Care East (CHO6) who, in the course of their work, comes into contact with those bereaved through suicide and who has completed the safeTALK* or ASIST* training.

The Wheel - FREE Online Training for Small Voluntary Groups

The Wheel will be offering FREE online training courses for small voluntary groups with only a few members of staff. For groups like that it can be a challenge to release staff to attend training courses and engage in capacity building. 

The Wheel leads the SCOPE project, supported by ERASMUS+, aiming to address these challenges through the development of online learning content for the identified core needs of their members. They create an online platform which will house The Wheel's training content. Small voluntary groups can participate in their pilot programme and can sign up here
safeTALK Suicide First Aid Workshop

The HSE will be offering a FREE safeTALK Suicide First Aid Workshop on Thursday October 10th 2019 in the Taylor Centre in Bray, Co. Wicklow.

Purple House Cancer Support Information Talk & Stanford Cancer Thriving and Surviving Programme

As part of Dún Laoghaire Festival of Inclusion Purple House Cancer Support will be giving a free talk on Cancer Support in the Community on Monday 7th October at 11am in The Lexicon Library, Dun Laoghaire. Purple House Cancer Support will also be running the Stanford Cancer Thriving & Surviving Programme from January 2020 for 6 weeks. This is a self management programme for Cancer survivors with the aim of improving their quality of life to better manage their daily health.

SAOR Screening and Brief Intervention for Problem Alcohol & Substance Use - FREE One-Day Course
