This edition of our SCTN newsletter will be slightly different due to the current Covid-19 crisis. We have decided to focus on useful information such as helplines and websites and FREE online educational and wellbeing resources which are currently available. This is only a snapshot of what is available and we continue to collect what is out there.

Southside Partnership DLR Service Update

All Southside Partnership DLR Offices are currently closed to the public until further notice in line with government guidelines. 

Many services and supports are still available via phone, email and social media and many of our community supports are also still running. Please check below for more details on our programmes and an update will be provided shortly as some services are currently changing the way they operate during this time. 

Most classes and courses are currently on hold or postponed. However, some programmes are being delivered online now, for instance the Jobs Club (see details below).

The Southside Community Training Network will not be running classes anymore this term, but will continue to promote programmes, initiatives and online resources as part of its monthly e-newsletter.

Tús Care & Repair Team Supports the Community... 

Tús Team Leader Dave Moloney and the Southside Partnership Care & Repair Team have been doing a fantastic job supporting elderly community members with some collections and deliveries of medication in Ballybrack and Shankill.

DLR Drug and Alcohol Task Force - Website Update

Supports from Barnardos

Family life has become a little more complicated now that we have to respond to Covid-19. 
Barnardos is there to support parents throughout this challenging time.

Barnardos have just launched a dedicated telephone and email support service to provide advice to parents on a wide range of issues that may have come up during this time. If you or someone you know needs extra parental support we are here to help.

This service will be staffed by Barnardos project workers who are trained professionals. Some issues that parents may need support on include:
  • How to talk to your children about the coronavirus
  • Setting a good routine
  • Managing children’s behaviours and sibling dynamics
  • Managing aggression and family discord
  • Home schooling/managing school expectations.
  • Fostering natural learning opportunities in the home
  • Healthy eating
  • Accessing fun and educational activities for families and individual children
  • Managing your child’s worries
  • Self-care for parents
  • Helping parents manage their own worries and anxieties
  • Managing children’s online activity

Healthy Food Made Easy - Recipes Online

As the Healthy Food Made Easy courses have stopped running for now, the Programme will be posting regular recipes on the Southside Partnership DLR Facebook page which can be accessed here. If you have any questions about the programme please contact Angela Lennon at

English Classes for Migrant Women

This is to confirm that the English classes for migrant women are continuing online for now. The Women's Programme is also currently reviewing their remaining programme to see if anything can be delivered in a different format.

Jobs Club - Now Online

The Jobs Club will now be delivered ONLINE.

The course is a short focused 5 Day CV & Interview Skills Programme: Designed to give participants the tools to build their own CV / Cover Letter 

  • “Top Tips” on effective CV and Cover Letter Writing
  • “Helpful Tips” on managing Interviews today with confidence
  • Increase your awareness of your skills, traits and achievements
  • One to one interview preparation

Our Job Club assists people who wish to return to the workplace to develop job-seeking skills, develop interview skills, explore job opportunities, prepare a CV to suit the vacancy, learn how to write letters of application, learn how to fill in application forms, assists people to become motivated and build confidence.

Homework Supports and Grinds are Continuing Remotely through Holly House Community Centre

The children linking in to the Homework and Grinds Supports at Holly House Community Centre are now supported remotely whilst the schools are closed. 
DLR Social Prescribing Programme for Health & Wellbeing - COVID-19 Update

This is to inform you that the DLR Social Prescribing Service will continue to run during the Covid-19 Crisis. At this moment, the service can be accessed through Shankill Family Practice or via self-referral by contacting Lisa Sieger-Jamison on 087 737 0372 or by emailing We can currently take referrals from the areas of Shankill, Ballybrack, Loughlinstown and Sallynoggin.

Other Supports in DLR

Assistance Request to Blackrock Garda Station

To avail of assistance from An Garda Síochána an email should be forwarded to our District Office at

Attach the subject heading ASSISTANCE REQUEST in capitals from Monday – Friday within office hours 8am – 6pm. At the weekends please contact Blackrock Garda Station on 01 – 6665200. Anything urgent is a 999 request.

The person who requires assistance will be informed that a member of An Garda Síochána or Volunteer from a local agency will assist.

On receiving a request the following information is required and has to be noted on the email to

  • Name, address and contact details of person seeking assistance.
  • Any medical issues need to be disclosed for example, are they quarantined due to suspect case of Covid – 19. This is for safety reasons for all involved.
  • Type of assistance required e.g. prescription delivery, meals on wheels or mercy mission.

An Garda Síochána will also use these opportunities to link identified people into local, national and state services where appropriate. Any person with concerns for themselves or for a neighbour should contact Blackrock Garda Station as above.

As a community at this time we need more than ever to support the most vulnerable in our society, particularly our elderly and isolated. An Garda Síochána has always worked closely with their communities and they will continue to do so in these extraordinary times.

FREE Educational Online Resources

NALA - Free over-the-phone tuition for adults

NALA provides tutors on the phone that can help with:

  • Reading, writing and spelling
  • Numbers and basic maths
  • Filling in forms, for example for social welfare benefit
  • Fun learning ideas for kids
  • Understanding health information
  • Understanding financial information, for example applying for mortgage relief

Nasa Online Media Library - Now Fully Available

In order for people at home to access another very interesting way to widen their horizon, NASA has made their entire collection of images and videos publicly available and copyright free. What a treat! There are some amazing images and videos here. Enjoy...

An Cosán Digital Stepping Stones Tool

An Cosán have recently developed a new resource which gives people the opportunity to assess their digital literacy and work with their tutor to develop a plan based on their needs.  This resource was developed before the COVID-19 crisis but will be valuable now to address the needs of learners during this time. ChatterPack FREE Resources Newsletter

ChatterPack provided a great newsletter with a selection of FREE resources and activities currently available online. This can be accessed here
FREE Online Resources for Children
& Home Teaching

RTÉ to broadcast 'School on TV' from Monday

RTÉ has confirmed that it will broadcast over an hour of "school on TV" to support primary school children and their parents at home.

It is part of a cross-platform teaching initiative that has been developed by RTÉ at short notice with the support of the Department of Education.

The one-hour programme will begin on Monday.

It will run from 11-12 Monday to Friday on RTÉ 2, with a shorter "catch-up" segment later in the afternoon. It will be aimed particularly at children in 1st to 6th class.

The TV programme will be produced by an Independent production company and will be presented from a real primary school classroom by teachers with television experience.

DLR Sports Partnership 'Let's Stay Active Together' Challenges

DLR Sports Partnership are currently offering a few interesting 'Let's Stay Active Together' challenges on their website including the 'Grandparents 15 Minute Challenge', the 'Move to the Rhythm Dance Challenge', the 'Fighting Fit Challenge' and the 'Scrambled Leg Challenge'. COVID-19 Impact Webinar / The Wheel

With the COVID-19 crisis continuing to unfold around us, everyday life has inevitably come to a standstill. Of paramount importance, of course, is staying safe and adhering to official guidellines for dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak.
