Volume 25|  10 September 2021| Roll Number 696|  Week 7 Term 3

Kia ora koutou

We have enjoyed a wonderful two days back at school in Alert Level 2. I am so very impressed with the way the students have adapted back into school routines and programmes. Testament to positive family time in your bubbles! Thank you so much for supporting us all with Home Learning and zoom lessons. The transition from home to school has appeared seamless. I also want to say how awesome our staff have been juggling planning and meetings during these strange times. A big shout out to our teachers managing their own children in their bubbles and the daily tasks associated with small children at home while working.

Next week we will continue to request that parents drop and collect children from PUDO as a precaution in Level 2. If it is an emergency, please scan in, wear a mask and sign in and out of the office. If your child is unwell, please keep them at home until they have recovered.

Our Development of Talents (DoTs) programme scheduled during lockdown will not go ahead unfortunately. However, students in years 3-8 can look forward to their ski and snowboard lessons over the next three weeks. A snow dump dance would be much appreciated if you feel like a boogie!

Have an amazing weekend in our amazing town. Keep safe and well.

After much deliberation and discussion with the other Zone co-ordinators, our Y5-8 School Cross Country, the Wakatipu Primary Schools Cross Country, and Central Otago Primary Schools Cross Country have been cancelled unfortunately due to our current Level 2 restrictions and the uncertainty of moving into Level 1 in the final weeks of term.

My First Lesson Online

I heard the minute hand tick as I waited for the clock to hit 11.15.
I heard the energetic voice of my brother echo into my room.
I saw the invite pop-up on my screen like a giddy kangaroo.
I saw my hand shake as I entered the meeting.
I felt nervous, weary, excited, overwhelmed, my feelings were flying through my head like a witch on a broomstick.
I felt suddenly comforted as I saw my teacher smile and greet me.
I wondered how everyone was doing.
I wondered when Lockdown will end and when will Covid be over?

Access To Free Period Products

Being able to go to school everyday is important for overall wellbeing. It provides a safe environment where children and young people can grow and learn, build social connections and a sense of belonging, and develop their potential. It has long-term impacts for health, employment opportunities and life choices.

Access to period products is just one way to remove barriers that prevent children and young people regularly attending school. Providing free period products is one way our government can directly address poverty and positively impact children’s wellbeing.

The initiative aims to provide free period products to children and young people in all state and state-integrated schools and kura across New Zealand during 2021, not only for use within the school setting but also at home. Queenstown Primary School is part of this initiative.

Access to period products is a necessity, not a luxury. Our product has arrived!

To access product please see Mrs Lock, Mrs Bailey, Mrs Nichols, Mrs Little, the office staff or talk to your teacher to collect two packets of the perfered product to take and use at home. Product will be available and housed within school bathrooms for use throughout the day.

Slow Down Near School Buses

A reminder to parents/caregivers to take extra care around school bus stops. Please park on the same side as the bus stop wherever possible. But if you do need to park on the opposite side, cross to your children first instead of having them cross to you. Please never call to your child from the other side of the road – yes it does happen - and it can put children in great danger!

Parents please remember that the maximum speed when passing a stationary school bus stopped to pick up or drop off children is 20km/h regardless of which side the bus is on.  Please take extra care around school bus stops and provide supervision for children needing to cross.
