Kia ora nga tangata ataahua
Welcome back everyone to a super busy and short term This term is 9 weeks as we fulfill the number of days we are expected to be open for teaching and learning. There will be a number of events and activities that you will need to be aware of. Therefore, if you have friends who do not read our newsletters please encourage them to do so to keep informed.
This week I met with Whakatipu Transport Programme Alliance (WTPA) representatives to discuss the impact the closing of Gorge Road will have on us at QPS. This will occur from Tuesday 26 October. There are a number of ways that we can ensure our students' safety is a priority. Please note the following;
-
You can continue to access the Boundary Road carpark.
-
Right hand turns into and out of PUDO will be eliminated. The attached map will give you an idea of how to access and leave our PUDO.
-
Lake Hayes, Frankton and Fernhill buses will leave from the other side of our crossing and to the right of QPS. We have been practicing that this week.
-
Gorge Road will be closed between Weaver and Turner Streets.
-
You can use the Hamilton Road entrance to park on our bottom field from 8.15 - 9am and 2.50pm till 3.30pm.
-
The Deputy Principals and myself will patrol the QPS crossing between 8.15-9am daily and the afternoon routine will continue.
-
Try to use the school buses as much as possible.
-
Walk to school if you live close by to QPS.
Our mission is to cause the least disruption to arrival and departures. WTPA have suggested that it would be a good idea for parents who are driving their children to school to leave earlier.
Congratulations to our amazing kapa haka who performed at Polyfest yesterday. They looked and sounded AMAZING. Thank you Moana Thorne and Toni McIntyre for organising for QPS to participate to such a high standard!
Next Friday we farewell our caretaker, Karl te Borg to pursue new ventures in the Wakatipu. We will acknowledge him at our school assembly. Jamie Turner, a parent of students at QPS, is our new caretaker. We are looking forward to him joining our team.
