President's Message

Spring is on the horizon and we all can put this long, hard winter behind us. Be it the first foal of the year, the first trail ride, or first show. Spring is a time of rebirth. The same is true for your club. As your newly elected President, I am working with all the committee chairpersons and event coordinators to try and make sure they have what they need to be successful. The one common message is the need for more volunteers. Be it greeting people and bragging about the Arabian horse at the Midwest Horse Fair (April 12-14), helping hand out ribbons or put on the exhibitor party at the August show (August 2-4), or providing a few hours a year to serve on one of the clubs committees, our volunteers make this club.

Region 10 Horse Judging Contest

DATE: Saturday March 16th, 2019 at Price Performance Horses in New Berlin, WI

Open to all 4H/FFA, AHA, Collegiate Teams and Individuals. Cash Prizes and Awards

Younger kids are encouraged to participate so we will have awards for the top scoring kids who are 11 or under! The overall high scoring individual will also get to judge a class with the official judges at the 2019 Region 10 Championship show at the MN State Fairgrounds in June.

Adults, Coaches, WSCA Judges, Spectators, etc. can also participate in the Adult Judging Category, so those of you who like to judge from the rail, here is your chance to test your knowledge (you will not have to give oral reasons).

Like Hippology? We will also have a Hippology test station set up for you to hone your skills.

Email Kaitlyn Frenchick for questions or an entry form if you want to enter! Details and forms will also be up on our Region 10 website soon.

WAHA Ambassador Award Winner - Secret Blush
The newest recipient of the WAHA ambassador award is Secret Blush! "Blush" is a half-Arabian mare owned by Jeana Radosevich. Jeana has owned Blush for 19 years, since she was a weanling. This allowed Jeana to participate in all of her training and realize that training horses was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life.

In recent years, Blush has been used as a lesson horse. She has taught everyone from the youngest children to adults looking to try something new. She has been ridden many times in the ACT classes at WAHA shows, demonstrating how safe and wonderful the Arabian horse is. She has even dressed up for the costume classes. Blush has guided many people into our wonderful breed!
2019 Midwest Horse Fair Halter Class - Volunteers Needed
The Midwest horse fair class was an idea I had that would enable people of all ages to be able to work with a mentor and be able to show in a special class at the WAHA August show. Sign ups are taken at the Midwest horse fair in April.  We have had participants from 7 to 80 years old. For many years wonderful people have mentored these folks and offered their calm, safe Arabian and half Arabians for use. We salute those of you and your horses that have done this class. It is so fulfilling to see the excitement and sense of accomplishment the newbies have. They are very grateful for the experience.

I am looking for people with calm horses to participate at the August show. Must be willing to spend from roughly 11 AM -12:30 PM on Saturday August 3rd working with a person. Must realize that most of the people have no horse experience. It's important that if you volunteer you follow through -we don't want to disappoint someone.

Thank you in advance. Please contact Debbie Alt if you are interested in participating. This is a wonderful way to do your part introducing a newcomer to the Arabian breed.

Thank you very much,
Debbie Alt

WAHA Members Attend Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show

Submitted by Julie McKee

As the Scottsdale International Arabian Horse show came to a close for 2019, WAHA members Paul and Julie McKee continued to “enjoy the ride” with their 6 year old stallion MC Jaspoure. (Pogrom x Ames Jasmine.)

Jaspoure competed at this year’s show with Scottsdale-based trainer Joshua Shino, earning 3rd place in his Open Hunter class, and earning Top 10 honors in the Hunter Championship.

“There were about 40 horses who started out in the elimination classes,” Julie explains, “and this was only Jaspoure’s 3rd show under saddle. We were hoping he’d at least make the cut into the final. When they called his number among the Top 10… it just doesn’t get a whole lot better than that!”

Jaspoure’s son, Dana Salvador, made his debut in the show ring at Scottsdale in the Yearling Colts ATH. He also trotted away with a 3rd place ribbon. Salvador was bred and shown by Dale Worthington of Dana Arabians (located in Roy Washington). Paul observes: “When I watched them compete I was aware that most of the colts in that class had been trained by professional trainers. Then here comes Dale, an amateur who trains his own. Salvador showed like a champ and when they called his number for 3rd place I felt so proud. Jaspoure’s colt is a big, handsome guy and this was a huge accomplishment.”

“The Scottsdale show is unlike any other show I’ve ever attended,” Julie adds. “There are hundreds, if not thousands, of world-class Arabian horses in just a few square miles out there. And nearly every major trainer has a presence in Scottsdale. What that means is that some of the greatest horses and most successful trainers in our breed compete at the show… and most don’t have to travel very far. From my perspective, that makes Scottsdale incredibly competitive but also incredibly fun to watch. It’s a dream come true to see so many Arabian horses show so well, and a dream come true to be able to compete there.

The McKees watched former WAHA members Nate Soderburg and Gretchen Heberling trot out of the ring with ribbons last week, and enjoyed watching several classes with Bill Heiser and Tara Kreklau. A visit to Zinburger for gourmet burgers (while braving an unseasonable sleet storm) capped off an exciting 9 day trip.

Submitted by Debbie Alt

It's the time of year to nominate your horse for the WAHA point system!

Earn recognition for your accomplishments throughout the year at the annual meeting and awards banquet. Enter the legion of merit program to earn beautiful one of a kind bronze statues as seen in the photos below.

Divisions are offered for everyone, including those who trail ride.

See the rules and entry forms on the WAHA website. Have questions? Contact Deb Alt, Gay Jeanne Bower or Cheryl Bumgarner. (Contact info is under the board of directors listings).

Are you interested in the point system but have questions? Want to know more? The point system committee would be interested in having a mini clinic on everything you wanted to know about the point system if we had enough interest. If this is something that interests you please contact Debbie Alt (dalt5940@yahoo.com) or Cheryl Bumgarner, Kristen Hendrickson or Gay Jeanne Bower.

Just a FYI all the board member names are listed on the Wisconsin Arabian Horse Association website. We also have 2 Facebook pages; Wisconsin Arabian Horse Association page and Wisconsin Arabian Horse Association message board.

Want to share a proud moment from a show, trail ride, or any moment with your horse? Want to show off your newest foals? We would like to share your stories and accomplishments. Send your story and pictures to Karissa Held at kheld@wisc.edu.
