September 2016
On November 8th, we will celebrate 30 years of giving HOPE to Canadians all across the country with an evening of reflection on Hope Air's incredible impact. Countless people have had a hand in Hope Air's success over the years. 30 Years of HOPE will celebrate the contributions of those who have given their time, talent, and resources to making sure that healthcare is accessible to all Canadians, no matter where they live or how much money they make.

On November 8th, 1986, the first Hope Air flight took off from New Brunswick, carrying a young girl to cancer treatment in Toronto. Hope Air was proud to be a part of this young girl's journey, giving her parents hope that they could get their daughter to life-saving treatment without going into debt. Since that first flight, Hope Air has flown thousands of people to medical care, each with their own unique stories of HOPE.

Baby Ezra, at left, has one such story. He was born with a condition that required several serious skull surgeries in Toronto, far from his home in St. John's. Click here to read Ezra's incredible story of HOPE
– Hope Air has recently flown Ezra home from his third surgery and we are pleased to report it was a complete success!

I'd like to extend my sincere thanks to each of you reading this
– whether you are a donor, a Volunteer, or someone who has learned about Hope Air at an event, you've helped Clients like Ezra, and thousands of others, get to the care they need.

In 2010, Gary was diagnosed with emphysema, which progressed to such a point that he needed to use an oxygen tank at all times. A lung transplant helped to improve Gary's quality of life, but Gary and his wife, Sherri, needed to travel from Sault Ste. Marie to Toronto for the follow up appointments that ensure his health.

Hope Air has been there to ensure Gary doesn't have to miss the appointments that keep him healthy. Read Gary's story here.

Hope Air's Clients often need to fly to more than one appointment, meaning trips between home and the treatment city can add up quickly. At Hope Air, we are there for our Clients to make sure that they can get to all of their assessment, treatment, and follow-up appointments without worry about cost or distance.

In 2016, 41 per cent of Flights were for first-time Hope Air Clients, while the remaining 59 per cent had used Hope Air in the past.
In August 2016, Hope Air arranged 905 Flights for Hope Air Clients and their escorts!

Hope is a young Hope Air Client who flies to Ottawa for treatment of a seizure disorder. Her story was featured in the Manitoulin Expositor. Click here to read about the relief that Hope Air has brought to Hope and her family.
Since 1999, Hope Air's Volunteer Pilots have provided a unique experience for our Clients. Cheryl flew for treatment of a cardiovascular disorder in 2005, and wrote a letter to express her gratitude for Hope Air's help.

She writes:

"Wow - what a great experience flying with Hope Air was for us!  It was so refreshing to be in Calgary in such a short amount of time compared to the usual eight hour drive it usually takes us.

The staff at Hope Air are exceptional, very friendly, and helpful throughout.

Our pilot, Bruce Henderson, was wonderful and he made our trip as enjoyable as possible.

Thank you for the privilege of using your program.  We spread the word as much as we can about your service."
