A long-term initiative to address one of the roots of the problem: Hunger
After our general fundraising campaign in Ramadan, thanks to you, I could finally stop worrying about monthly rent, debts and day to day expenses and could focus on some of the long-term, much needed initiatives that would help curb the threats of drugs, gangs and trafficking in our pilot neighborhood on the west side of Columbus. We have known that poverty, ignorance and cultural incompetency on the parents' sides are some of the most important factors in making a youth an easy prey for a criminal. Therefore on the prevention side, we are focusing on providing food and educating children, youth and parents through various programs that are designed to empower them as individuals and as families, inshaAllah.
MY Family Pantry is the first long-term initiative in this regard. We have partnered with the Mid-Ohio Food Bank and have allocated a room of MY Deah's store for this pantry. We are serving four zip codes that are known for large population under poverty line and the high rates of crimes, drugs, gangs and human trafficking. Children in these neighborhoods are the most vulnerable. For some of them the holidays and snow days mostly mean no food at home and that makes them the real easy prey for drug dealers and pimps.
Through MY Family Pantry, we will be able to help hundreds of families on monthly basis, inshaAllah. The best part of this is this:
Our major kickoff event, "Thanks is Giving" is this Wednesday before Thanksgiving. With your support, we hope to serve food to more than hundred families that day. If you live in Columbus, you can also volunteer your time to purchase, pack and distribute the food boxes and fresh produce to the hundreds of people that are coming to our store this Wednesday.
Once again, it is all possible because of Allah's help and your support and trust that you have placed in us through your donations and volunteer hours. Thank you so much for lending a helping hand in protecting and empowering our children and their moms and dads.
MY Project USA Youth Leaders Join Franklin County Youth Council
Muslim Youth to Lead County-wide Efforts to Bring Social Justice
Thirty awesome youth leaders from across the Franklin County were formally inaugurated to the Franklin County Youth Council last week. That includes three dynamic youth leaders of MY Project USA as well: Durya Nadeem, Lena Sawalha and Salvia Zafar.
These youth have completed the required leadership trainings and projects to be an official member of the council. We are so very proud of each one of them.
Durya, Lena and Salvia are already part of several community services projects with MY Project USA and other clubs and organizations. With the council, they will now make difference in several districts and cities across the county, inshaAllah.
MY Project USA Presented As A Neighborhood Best Practices Model
Community Organizations to Learn From MY Project USA
Recently, we were selected by the City of Columbus and The United Way of Central Ohio as one of the Best Practices Model of organizing youth and community. We were invited to present to other community leaders and city officials about our work. We shared the success stories that MY Project USA has accomplished in just 18 months. We were not shy about blaming all of our success on you and your commitment to service and leadership.
We have more request to offer more presentations and trainings to other groups in the city. Please keep us in your prayers and support us with your time and donations so we could continue serving our community while improving the quality of our work further.
