Dr. Yasir Qadhi's Message: "My Project USA is doing some amazing work in the State of Ohio. I have seen some of the work first hand specially among some of the most vulnerable segments of our society. And alhamdulillah it is such a refreshing breath of fresh air to see members of our own community stand up to such noble task ...It is these kinds of projects that really demonstrate to the community at large what our religion is all about. I have no hesitation in asking each and everyone of you to help out in whatever way you can ...specially in this month of Ramadan, in this time frame, I urge all of you to dig deep in your pockets and help out in whatever way you can.

COVID Ramadan Interfaith Gathering Was A Blast - Must Watch The Video
Last 10 days were very hard on us. We had back to back two break-ins at MY Deah's store and it has really shaken us in the midst of Ramadan and COVID 19 Pandemic. See the news coverage about them. The burglaries are still under investigation. We have put a board to our broken window. Have replaced the front door. Have contacted the insurance and waiting on their response. Originally we thought, it was a loss of about $10,000, but as we calculated the loss of our time and business's losses in sale and operations, our estimate comes to $25,000. We don't know how much will be covered by our insurance. After God Almighty, we seek your help in covering some of these losses. We were already struggling to keep our doors and lights open beyond COVID, this blow has made the chances of our sustenance more slim. We need your help in keeping our doors and light open in coming months. Please keep us in your prayers and support us through your donations.
While dealing with this we have kept all our programs as scheduled. We served 51 families on Sunday at our COVID 19 Eid Giveaway Event. We are ready to pass a lot of food to 300 families tomorrow. We have kept taking care of our clients that are in need of assistance with their rent, utilities or any other essentials for their children or families. We have also continued our weekly Reading Warriors program and new mentorship program, "Under My Wing" has also been kicked off. Altogether, thanks to all of our volunteers and donors, about $40,000 Worth Of Food, Cash Assistance, Rent, Utilities, Household Items, Masks, Soaps, Cleaning Supplies & More Have Been Distributed Since March. This was possible due the grants we recived from The Columbus Foundation, The United Way of Central Ohio and the generous donations of our amazing community. Thank you so much.
Our COVID Ramadan Interfaith Event & Fundraiser was very well received. Out entire team was able to present their projects and outcomes in the front of the entire community. If you missed it and you are interested to learn more about any of our program, it would be the best for you to watch the video of that event. You will be very proud to call MY Project USA your organization after watching this video. Please do share it with others and ask them to support us through their prayers and donations as well.
Please check out the rest of the newsletter to catch up with the top most action items. We are no more able to cover everything we do here in this newsletter, therefore we just keep it to the most pressing items. We ask the Almighty to accept it from all of us and reward us immensely.

We are Zakat eligible since it falls into six of the eight categories of Zakat as commanded by Allah SWT in the following verse of Quran:
"Zakat expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [zakah] and for bringing hearts together [for Islam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the [stranded] traveler - an obligation [imposed] by Allah . And Allah is Knowing and Wise. (Quran 9:60)"
The first and second category of “for poor and for the needy” applies since we are helping poor local and refugee Muslim families.
The fourth category of "bringing hearts together" applies since we serve all needy people regardless of their faith, ethnicity or race. We also work with individuals that are attracted to Islam and Muslims and prefer working with us to learn more.
The fifth category “freeing captives” applies since we are addressing human trafficking, the modern day slavery, prevention and intervention. We are specially focusing on freeing sex-slaves from their masters and then helping them in reestablishing their lives.
The sixth category of "paying the debt" applies since we take care of families, single moms and family violence victims dealing with debts and financial instability.
The seventh category “the cause of Allah” applies because we are protecting and empowering Muslim youth and families in America. Through our work we are addressing drugs, gangs, violence, suicides, radicalization, homelessness, and hunger through capacity building of the individuals and the community. Through the documentation and publicity of our work we seek to address Islamophobia as well. Our goal is to preserve Islam and Muslim community in America at its best.
According to the majority scholars, Zakat can be given to those who volunteer to fight in the cause of Allah (SWT) and do not receive a fixed salary from the government. This also applies to the operational cost/salaries of a non-profit organization like ours that fits the other categories of zakat eligibility.
You can choose any of the following method to send your zakat or other donations to our way.
