What Are We Doing As Adults To Protect & Empower Our Children In Suburbs, In The Inner City, In our Own Households?

Join Us To Listen, Learn & Lead - Empower Our Youth

The Big Table @ Wedgewood & Noor Islamic Center

Dear  Family,
Peace and blessings unto you,

Each and every day, one way or the other, we are hearing about our youth failing in their lives. It could be drugs, alcohol, gangs, bullying, depression, discrimination, trafficking, sexuality or any other challenges that they might be facing in their neighborhoods, at schools, in their own homes or online. Regardless of their socio- economic status, faith, ethnicity and gender, our children are going through a lot. They need us as an adults, as a parents, as a neighbor, as community members and as community leaders.

What are we doing to help these kids? What needs to happen within our own households, our neighborhoods, our community and our faith institutions to create safe, nurturing, empowering spaces for these children?  What do we need to learn and do to make that happen? How you can help in creating those spaces? What role you want to play in building a safe and empowering community for our children and grandchildren? To find the answers of all of these questions and to offer your own answers, please join us tomorrow. August 29th, at any of the three Big Tables that we are organizing.

Wedgewood Big Tables would focus on the Wedgewood community and the scope of our work in collaboration with the rest of the organizations that are interested in helping in that neighborhood. Regardless of who you are, there is something you can do as we turn this community in to a role model community in Columbus.

The Noor Big Table would focus on the challenges we face in raising children in suburbs. What is being done within our community to address those challenges. What MY Project USA has achieved in the inner city and how that work and more can help us, adults, protect and empower our youth in suburbs and elsewhere.

For those of you who are not in Columbus, we are working on launching an online discussion/forum very soon. Please stay tuned for more announcements, keep us in your prayers and support us with your donations.

Wedgewood Eid Prep - A Great Success!

More than 400 Meals, 200 Bags Stuffed With Supplies, Free Hair Cut & Clothes Were Distributed

Kudos to our new and old youth organizers in Wedgewood, our Eid prep event on Monday, August 20th, weent very well. We were able to serve a large number of little children in picnic style. We also packed and passed hundreds of meals to adults to take it to their homes to break their fasts.

The best part was when 200 children picked brand new, beautiful bags filled with new supplies for themselves. Thanks to Qali Ahmed, Inaya Hussain and Raifa for their leadership in organizing a wonderful back to school drive.

This time, many new organizers participated for the first time. They provided free hair cuts to the children using the machines we bought per their request. They are now preparing to organize their very first festival on September 2nd. Please check our Facebook page for more details on daily basis.
