These are one of the brightest and smartest kids in Columbus. They are Wedgewood Reading Warriors. They are Wedgewood leaders and organizers. With the help of MY Project USA, these kids and their families are doing their very best to secure their future.
We ask you to consider supporting us this #GivingTuesday. With your help, we could continue our programs to educate and empower hundreds of children in a much ignored and well-deserved community on the westside of Columbus, Wedgewood Village Apartments. This community is comprised of a very large Somali refugee population with about 2000 children. They have seen 7 homicides and 17 gangs and drugs related shootings this year.
Currently, MY Project USA is hundred percent focused on saving the rest of the youth and their families through following programs and initiatives in this neighborhood:
- MY Family Pantry
- MY Soup Kitchen
- Wedgewood Kids Club
- Wedgewood Girls Club
- Wedgewood Reading Warriors
- Wedgewood Boy Scouts Program
- Wedgewood Parents Workshops
- Wedgewood Resident Association
- Wedgwood Youth Leaders Program
- MY Deah's Warehouse & Store
You can also create your own fundraiser on Facebook to raise money for us. May God reward you immensely for every second of your time and every penny that you would spend to help us empower kids in Wedgewood.
This past weekend, we did not find enough words to express our gratitude to you all - our youth, parents, clients, volunteers, community members, activists, community leaders, interfaith partners, public officials, agencies and other partner organizations, donors, board members, trustees and all well-wishers - that have contributed to the tremendous success and growth of MY Project USA.
This year we became the largest Muslim social services organization in Ohio. We also emerged as one of the most prominent and main stream organization fighting social injustice and Islamophobia in Columbus and in Hilltop area on the west side of Columbus, through civic engagement and dialogue.
Together, this year we have done beyond imaginations. Alhmadulillah. All praise is due to God. We praise and thank Him for His mercy on us.
The year has not ended yet, we have so much more in pipeline to finish and to launch before this year ends. Your support and presence makes it possible for us to protect and empower those youth and families that were neglected and under-served for a very long time. Thank you for all you do.

This weeks marks first year of our collaboration with the Mid-Ohio Food Bank and the formal kick off of our food pantry. We have passed out about 612,000 meals and snacks to more than 26,000 clients this year. This is an amazing achievement of the Executive Committee of MY Family Pantry that is led by Karum Abdulrahman, an OSU student. The committee's leadership is comprised of Bayan Shalash, Farida Eid, Omar Dahshi, Heba Raslan and Zeenet Ahmed. All of them are OSU students and are great role models for our youth. We are truly blessed to have such incredible youth leaders to take care of such an important program of ours.
Please join us on Saturday, December 2nd to celebrate the first year anniversary with our team. Come over to celebrate these young men and women and other volunteers that have served tirelessly throughout the year.
Wedgwood spruce up day is a resident-driven MY Project USA initiative. Our building leads are organizing a cleanup day. Our youth retreat was a one-day camp on October 15th at the Lazarus Camp facility of the Boys Scouts of America in Delaware, OH. The objective was to bring Muslim youth leaders and activist from across the central Ohio together as a family. Our goals was to invest in the selected youth leaders from the Somali refugee community (mostly from the Wedgewood Village Apartments) on the west side of Columbus. We want to help them to become the driving force in uplifting their community in next 5 years.
This retreat was funded by the Columbus City Council. Councilman Michael Stinziano joined us in the community discussion part and promised to support all youth initiatives to empower their community.
Overall, the retreat and especially the community discussion was very beneficial. The whole group concluded and agreed into forming three committees and discussed useful resources that will make Wedgewood a safer, cleaner and more prosperous community.
1. Committee to Keep Youth Away From Drugs & Gangs
2. Committee to Promote Hygiene and Cleanliness
3. Committee to Reduce Graduation Drop Rates
By the Grace of God, all committees are meeting on regular basis and much progress have been made in just one month.
